Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Trying to find an anime that I watched one or two episodes of when I was younger. The only thing I remember is that the pilot is a hot-blooded idiot, and he tears one of the mech's hands off and throws it at his enemy as a "rocket punch." This ring any bells for anyone?
It's not one of the Mobile Suit Gundams, right?

The 08th MS Team OVA.

I also found there was a "rocket punch" in the Patlabor OVA but Noa didn't rip it off herself.

But it might've also been in Gurren Lagann. It's something Kamina would've totally done.
Definitely not Kamina. This was years before Gurren Lagann came out. I'll check out 08th MS Team after I'm done with episode 1 of Martian Successor Nadesico.

So it turns out that the Love Live! Sunshine! spinoff, Genjitsu no Yohane, isn't an isekai, since Truck-kun isn't involved, and the setting of Numazu is a fantasy-land.

Yohane also got a killer solo song too:

The characters also seem to have the same personality as their Sunshine counter-parts, as Hanamaru still has her "Zura" tick. Also, Lailaps can speak, and she is voiced by Youko Hikasa, and her voice has the same vibes of Mio Akiyama from K-On!, another character Youko voiced.

The April Fool's video game announcement of the series, will be an actual game too.

He also did the CLANNAD movie but I just cannot recommend it, at all. Don't even bother.
Say what you will but I actually liked that movie for the following reasons:

- Sunohara wasn't the loser he is in the KyoAni show
- The ending wasn't a massive cop-out like in VN/After Story
- Literally an unintentional 1970s anime flick made 30 years after the fact

What's not to like? Although of course it's no substitute for the original but it's a nice little oddity.

the first episode of Fate/strange Fake just came out. i had plans to re-read the manga but i guess i put that on hold. just when i started Watching the KNK movies as well.

why is every episode of an anime 55 minutes now?
I think the first big release that did it was ReZero. It's basically announcing "our anime is hyped enough that were going to have a film for a first episode"

Pretty much every fate series save Babylonia and Case Files have had hour long 1st episodes, although isn't Strange Fake just a special to get people hyped about the actual anime that was announced after it ended We'll see if they end up re-cutting it or just continue where it leaves off when the tv anime comes out.

That being said, I wonder if we'll start to regularly get a anime with hour long episodes instead of the normal 30 mins. iirc there have been a few cases already like a edited re-airing of Psyhco Pass with hour long episodes and the Gundam Origins and Unicorn OVAs where both like that before they where edited for TV.

It technically is both a cop-out and not a cop-out. It's heavily implied in the recap episode "Under the Green Tree" that Nagisa and Ushio (and perhaps Tomoya, too) truly did die in the original timeline before Tomoya's wish in the Illusion World transported him into another timeline. He also apparently gets nightmares of the previous world, so those scars on his soul are still there. It's possible Nagisa remembers the previous world, too, which is pretty sad in her case.

But I dunno, the CLANNAD movie was just too weird for me, and because it condenses hours of content into 90 minutes, his relationship with Nagisa just zooms by too much for my taste to the point I don't believe the emotions hit as hard as they're supposed to. I did like how Akio and Sanae's relationship was portrayed, though, and yeah, Sunohara wasn't a wimp/butt-monkey, but it was kinda jarring to where I didn't "feel" it was him. It's been a long time since I had last seen the movie, still haven't had any desire to rewatch it after all these years just because it left a funny taste in my mouth.

I prefer the AIR movie over the CLANNAD movie, if only because the KyoAni version felt rushed, too, and I think the movie showed Misuzu's route as it was supposed to go. Also helped in that Yukito didn't turn into a fucking bird at the end like wtf was that even all about.

edited re-airing of Psycho Pass with hour long episodes
I can't say for others, but Psycho Pass is like a very very special case from studio IG for their milking strategy.

Season 3 only has like 8 episodes in total, but each lasts for like 40 minutes.
Then they have First Inspector series, despite the name it's actually sequel to S3. Three episodes in total, 1 hour long for each episode. Pretty much silly action flick at this point, probably only bearable if you accept series throwing away for everything S1 stands for.

There's the Sinners of the System Case 1, 2 and 3. Similar with First Inspectors, but are side stories.

So I rarely watch any animu that I haven't watched before these days, but I stumbled on Mushoku Tensei because second season is coming out soon I guess?

And wow I understand this is allegedly the original isekai or whatever and the source material is from 10+ years ago, but the quality of the characterization and the writing is so much better than the norm these days. And they kept the weird underage Jap sex stuff to a much lesser degree than I expected from "fat 40 year old neet otaku pervert dies and is reborn as babby in fantasy world with his memories and personality intact, he gets to grow up again and get laid this time." Plus the animation is fucking beautiful except a few shots. I'm actually excited for season 2

Bro it's hype as fuck, and the fact they put a actual song during Gilgamesh and Ekidnu's fight when Ea gets brought out was just coke off a hookers ass. It exceeded all expectations, sub and dub. Yes I watched both in full. And my gosh, this is set in America alright

New trailer for Pluto and an actual release date (October 26)
Does look a bit better then the teaser posted a few months back which doing some digging, none of the animation in that one was used from the show and it was a 5-6 year old pv to show investors to try and get them to help fund

Also is it just me or are they changing the KR sublot in more of a religious cult then robot KKK? Given recent events I wouldn't be surprised if they lean into something like robots have no souls or AI is a affront to god. although I hope that's one of the few things since muh Thracia was always gonna be fucking annoying when they adapted it, more so if they make the mistake to reflect more of current year US.
I was worried for a while this was just never going to come out, like a certain Astro Boy Reboot show. Looks pretty damn good and I can't wait to see how Pluto is depicted in all its monstrous glory.

I somehow keep forgetting Astro's name is Atom in Japan...

The first episode of Atelier Ryza was pretty good. They changed things a little bit, but I feel like it was an improvement. I hope that the rest of the season is just as good, because I really enjoyed the games.

Never played any of the gamed but I followed it pretty well, the characters were engaging, and though I could feel the video game aspects like the whole alchemy crafting thing, it didn't feel forced. I'll keep watching
