Not sure of the reasons (probably the huge levels of inbreeding have a big part of it) but the Islamic world in the 8th Century was often more civilized than they are now, the Muslim scholars of the time preserved many of the discoveries of the Ancient Greeks when the Western and then Eastern Roman Empires fell, but they have gone back over, where the West eventually recovered from the Fall of Rome and the Dark Age it caused, the Islamic World has steadily degraded, both in wisdom, science, civilization, and the intelligence of its adherents.

Somewhat off topic but this is one of my favorite stories about cultural preservation.

In 1897 the British army gained ownership of a large number of artifacts from the ancient African kingdom of Benin, most notably bronze sculptures, known as the 'Benin Bronzes'. More comprehensive info can be read about them below:

Many of the artifacts ended up in museums all around the world, including in Germany. in late 2022, Germany made an agreement to return it's bronzes back to Nigeria, in an effort to 'make up for colonialism' or some bullshit. They were returned under the condition that they would be displayed in a museum as cultural artifacts.

Of course, upon being returned the bronzes ended up in the private collection of the Nigerian royal family and not in a museum.

At the time Baerbock said the bronzes were being returned to where they belong. Instead, the outgoing President Buhari of Nigeria has passed them on to Ewuare II, the Oba, or king, of Benin, who will now determine their fate. This has caused some observers in Germany to ask whether there was any point in restoring the bronzes in the first place.
