You Know What Grinds My Gears? - Things that personally piss you off

I hate it when people insist they have lots of opinions on current events, but they also rarely or never watch the news. Worse yet, they know little to nothing about whatever current event or issue they're being opinionated about. I don't give a fuck what you think if you don't even know what you're talking about in the first place.
I'm more mad at people who watch the news and actually believe the lies it's full of on any contested political issue, and very often just plain wrong even on things that don't matter because of incompetence. Anyone who listens to MSNPC or Faux and doesn't correct it for bias is kind of a fool. The so-called "neutral" ones like CNN may be even worse because they don't have an open bias, but probably just a hidden, deliberately malevolent agenda.

I agree! Consuming mainstream news is similar to not watching the news at all IMHO, because it's strictly entertainment and propaganda rather than unbiased coverage of current events.

Personal anecdote: A former friend of mine actually thought CNN was a valid news source and that he was getting the "best insider information." Likewise, my father thought the same thing about Fox News. Naturally, neither of them ever questioned those sources.

Thomas Jefferson said something about this phenomena.

“… the man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

CNN/Fox News piss me off. Nothing of value.

In lieu of becoming these people I've become nearly despondent with regards to news. I can't seem to find any source that doesn't put some kind of spin on a story, make inferences and interpretations, or where the journo blatantly writes their own feelings into a story.
I've got the WSJ, but you can tell they've got some DEI department helping them these days.
Anyway, I have to wait a long time before I feel comfortable opining on anything these days. I don't have the time or interest to do deep dives into stories. That was supposed to be the job of journalists.

Personally for just about my entire adult life I've completely ignored the news and I think that's gone pretty well.

Straight up one of the reasons I often times browse KF in private is so that I can see new threads in Deep Thoughts, etc. without needing to even see the articles from A&N, because who cares? Your mind will trick you into caring if you look at it, but that's because the human brain isn't well adapted to the modern world and it doesn't wrap itself around how irrelevant what you're hearing is to you; the actual evidence though doesn't support the idea that watching the news provides any material benefit.

If someone needs to watch the news, then they should watch a local news station. Those are going to be the least biased and most relevant.

I guess that's something for the thread, is people who are on social media and who constantly have to consume trending topics, so they're always worked up about some kind of bullshit they insist you should be losing your mind over too, as if you must be an idiot if you aren't constantly obsessed with relevancy or running around in circles in a panic over something. Ridiculous.

This reminded me of a coworker I sometimes have to interact with. I swear we're going to find this guy has necked himself one day. Perma-masker but for our safety, not his. Always on alert for whatever thing is in the headlines, always correcting himself for wrong think. Takes micro aggressions seriously. I think the minorities fuck with him because it's fun to see him self flagellate. He even out does the old white hippy women at work with the white apologia.
I'm glad I'm not going to encounter him for awhile during all of these court decisions. It just must really suck for him. Everything is an emergency. I've seen him shaking in the morning as he's getting out of his car, the guy is such a wreck. I assume there's some drug use involve with the way he is sometimes. It might even be prescribed to keep him from bursting a pipe.
I hate spending any time with him and I think deep down he's a self-centered moron who likes to hear himself talk, but I do feel bad. The news cycle really does a number on people like him. Who knows, if somebody took the news away maybe he'd be really useful directing his overabundance of mental energy elsewhere.

(Yes, he looks exactly like soyjak, but emaciated.)

New bosses coming in and changing everything to make it feel like they're in charge now.

Especially when they fuck it up so badly it goes belly up in less than a year.
It's been my experience that new bosses or top-level execs make shitty decisions as a way of showing who holds most (if not all) of the power. In one particular instance, the guy who was hired to grow my employer at the time instead single-handedly killed morale despite his part time work hours and alienated paying clients to the point the company went tits up within a year and a half.

Grown women that say who call any male "daddy."

Thread tax: People who throw online tantrums when they don't get the political results they wanted. If the whole "not my president" thing after Trump's election wasn't bad enough, we now have people claiming that SCOTUS is illegitimate in light of the recent decisions on Student Loan Debt, race-based admissions, and the web designer who refused to do a same-sex wedding site for religious reasons. It's one thing to dislike or disagree with a court case's outcome. Bouncing and squeaking like a spoiled brat, however, only makes the people look like poor losers.

I felt this in my bones.

Over here, we had a scandal some years ago because a former editor in chief began doing actual fake news™️ to fuck with the election of another nation under our jurisdiction. Evidently this was swept under the rock until her target threatened to sue her for libel.

Bad on top of bad, one of the three parties in our ruling government hired this woman and this wasn't brought up until the tensions with the nation grew to a boiling point.

Another scandal from that same news site. They began spreading incorrect news about a company begging for employees but no one wanted to work for them and so news sources were taking their side.

As it turns out, the company has terrible worker conditions, pay you can barely live for, shit hours, no pensions or safety policies. I had to find this out elsewhere.

Of course, our news are transparently pro Ukraine and everyone eats everything up, hook, line and sinker. It's annoying because no one stops to think that when it comes to war, it's not fucking black and white like capeshit movies. It's a hot pot of gray but it's easier to brainwash people.

I blame the news for people's lack of understanding of nuance, hypocritical and general naivité. God, talking current events with people is so exhausting.

It night also be because one of our biggest news sources is tax funded. Adds a false layer of legitimacy.

Thread tax: my neighbors. I live in an apartment building so there's plenty to go about.
Upstairs neighbor: For the love of God, stop throwing water, bras and wood figurines out of the window, you cunt.
Next door neighbor: For the love of God, stop staring through my windows and hooking your phone up with my television via Bluetooth.
Other neighbor next door: STOP VOMITING OUT THE WINDOW.

I cannot wait until I move out from here. I hate this place.

Sounds like half the people this site makes threads about

Food couriers are the niggers of the food industry and I'm tired of hearing them bitch about "No Tip" orders and articles about them. My brother/sister in Christ, you chose to be a delivery nigger. The fact that you cannot do your job without sabotaging customers orders explains exactly why you are nigger. I don't feel sorry for the people that constantly order delivery either, as they are just as big part of the problem. Once in awhile is fine or in an emergency, but every day to every other day is fucking excessive.

Service niggers in general are getting uppity as fuck lately. Nigger literally all you did is pour black coffee into a paper cup and hand it to me which takes less effort and energy than literally everything else in existance, you are not getting a fucking tip on top of what I already payed for my coffee.

Spare my your sighs and shitty looks.

Something I hate even more is griftcows who not only do this every day, but beg online while being too lazy even to go out and get the shit they're begging for.

My general rule is I don't tip for shit that isn't traditionally tip-worthy, unless they go above and beyond normal service, like someone at an actual coffee place (not StarCucks) who takes a few minutes to explain their offerings and give useful information. That's worth a buck or two. And even if I went to some shit-tier chain, maybe if I ask for some ridiculously complicated order and they do it without backtalk.

In retrospect, I ignored the fact that most what passes for news these days is mainstream media like CNN, MSNBC, Fox, etc. @AnOminous is right that none of those count as real news. No surprise that those "news" channels are also counted as entertainment. They straight up ignore or censor real news and focus on sensationalism and propaganda.

I'm sorry I made you feel and anyone else that way. When I think of the news, I think of independent sources because I don't follow any of the mainstream garbage or use social media. In my righteous fury, I was, and still am actually, angry that your run-of-the-mill normies either don't give a fuck about the truth behind current events or they just blindly take whatever the MSM tells them. I certainly don't think you and our fellow Kiwis are clueless normies. :)

Well, I do read news to some extent but rarely watch it on TV. That's mostly if I just happen to be walking past one in public. Not that the print news is much better. Some things you can't really investigate for yourself, though, so you have to muddle through it and try to compensate for bias as best you can.

I understand! There are times where I will skim through MSN, Reuters, or Wikipedia (:hah:), mainly when I'm at work since those are SFW and acceptable de minimus sources if I need a quick reference. I know I'm never getting the full story from those sources, but like you said I muddle through them until I can get to better sources.

No offense taken at all. I'm often astounded at how confident people are when they only learned of some new happening an hour ago. It really hit home when suddenly my whole community was awash in blue and yellow bunting. It took me a minute to figure out what the hell was going on. Bad shit is always happening in some country, but how was everyone suddenly so sure this was something that needed community level messaging in a random US town? This was helping Ukraine how? And the thing is, I'm fairly confident that at least half of these people putting flags in their front yards are just as ignorant of Ukraine and Russian politics as I am. What's it like to be so confident?

Update: the new supervisor making changes before you go on vacation, and then coming back to find out the changes were reverted but nobody told you until the day was almost over.

Apparently she actually went to my department and found out first hand how disruptive the changes were, and she changed things back the next day. I might have to rethink my stance on her.
Oh, don't even get me started on that.

My new supervisor is strict with our time management. It used to be where I could save my 15s until the end of the day. Now, we're not allowed to do that. We're expected to sit on a computer taking calls for four consecutive hours. Any schedule changes would be sporadic; you'd HAVE to check the board regularly.

One time, I tried to trade shifts. I did not get any notice until AFTER my shift was done. Almost had a writeup for that.

Anyone else feel like they're surrounded by fucking morons? Especially when said morons decide to have a good old whinge about this weeks hot-topic issue in the news chats that they insist they absolutely hate because "the news makes me depressed" even though it's all they fucking talk about with never more than a single sentence to an issue?

Genuinely I think that social media dynamics and the way information is presented is pushing us to "the great retardening". I've even noticed times when someone almost seems like they're thinking and about half way to making a good point before they decide that "I don't like thinking it's hard" and immediately seem to drop anything.
