Depends on the generation and where you find them, the elderly view them very favourably as brothers. The younger generation are less sympathetic, there's nationalist indoctrination on both sides so animosity is only going to increase and sentiments are similar from Taiwan as well. In general, it's considered a civil war among the Chinese that never actually ended and both sides claim they'd like a peaceful resolution.
