Sony hate thread

How is Spiderman 2 and only Spiderman 2 "a couple of preorders for capeshit"? And do you dislike Spiderman for some reason? Is it because you are a faggot?
Are you doing a @Marissa Moira larp? Yes there is a nostalgia to his retarded takes but you don't have to go in so hard.

The exclusive lineup for PS5 is absolutely anemic as fuck, that is undeniable and a number of those we know will hit PC (the Final Fantasy) and the Spiderman games are expected now seeing how 1 and Morales ended up there.

There is 0 reason to have a PS5 unless you have a pathological fear to PCs and the more time passes, the more obvious it is. Hell, sticking with a PS4 will give you a lot more enjoyment than a PS5 has in... lets see... 4 fucking years since it was released. The "the games are coming!" period has since long passed, it's a stripped down PC that has a much smaller catalogue of games to access than a PC.

Eat shit. He said there was a glut of superhero games and there isn't. There's one (two if you count the next one the studio is going to make, which is years away) and its a good one.

Does Minecraft still not have crossplay on Playstation? Destiny 2 got crossplay but I think Bungie had to bend over backwards to get Sony to agree (probably lead to the buyout now that I think about it). They probably super don't want Minecraft crossplay because it requires you log in to a Microsoft account. With Destiny its a Bungie account, but now Sony owns them.

Is Sony even offering anything to Microsoft in their list of childish demands? What reason would Microsoft have to give them their demands if they aren't offering anything in exchange?
from what I remember from the fortnite/apple shitshow, sony lets you do crossplatform - if you're willing to pay for it. dunno what's changed, but basically the argument was along the lines of "our platform, our microtransactions", people aren't allowed to buy the latter somewhere else (like on pc via highly discounted summer sale). if you do you have to make it up to sony, more or less.
there are a few games that do crossplat but require you to own the dlc on playstation for example. iirc destiny works the same.

Wasn't it about how PlayStation gamers don't play old games, so who cares about preserving retro classics?

I mean, sadly, he is correct. The modern PS installbase is comprised of normies that vomit at the sight of anything older than PS3 at best, though it is more like 2-3 years. The saddest part is YouTube is now flooding me with PS2 nostalgia, but Sony has dug themselves so far deep into the nu-Playstation brand that they will likely never capatalize on the growing trend of PS2-PS3 classics.
there were some microsoft charts floating around showing that BC makes up a single digit of all sales or something. we might care about it because we care about vidya, most people don't so see no reason to play a 360 game with 360 graphics. from a business perspective it makes sense to not bother with BC, but every time you mention that the same people tend to get extremely butthurt for some reason...

Well acshually, there are two upcoming capeshit games and looking at that oh so fun PS5 exclusives wiki thing... lets see.... oh, there is 2 whole "exclusives", Rise of the Ronin and Stellar blade, so if we are going by future expectations, a whole 50% of the expected catalogue for the PS5 IS capeshit. I know I know, absolutes paint a mean picture, but well, when you have almost fucking nothing you kind of have to scrape for things ;)

Percentage of Japanese language users at record high on Steam, surpassing even German and French

Valve has released the June 2023 edition of its monthly Steam Hardware & Software Survey. The survey shows that Japanese is currently the sixth most used language on the platform, behind Portuguese-Brazil. This has drawn the notice of Japanese users on Reddit and other platforms.

The Steam Hardware & Software Survey is conducted by Valve each month using data collected from users of the Steam client, provided that they have opted in. User data is compiled across a variety of different categories, such as OS version and Video Card, and the statistics are released to the public.

The June 2023 survey also covers a range of categories, and looking at the Language section, we can see that the usage rate of Japanese has risen significantly to 2.82%. This marks a 0.71% increase over the previous month and puts Japanese above both German and French.
The percentage of Japanese-language users on the platform has continued to grow in recent years. We previously reported on the topic last year, when the March 2022 survey showed that Japanese-language users had reached 2.34%, the highest value ever at that time (Related article). Since then it has hovered around the 2% mark, often appearing like it could surpass two major languages in German and French but not being able to get over the hump. You can see this transition in action by looking at the previous survey data via the Wayback Machine. Then, as we entered June this year, the number of Japanese-language users rose sharply.

The reason behind this surge is unclear. For starters, data collected for the Steam Hardware & Software Survey is strongly influenced by the trends of not just Japanese-language users, but also the users of other languages. For example, if you take a look at the data from March 2023, you can see that usage of Simplified Chinese grew by a staggering 25%, which caused all other languages to drop and brought the percentage of Japanese-language users down to 1.13%. This is great example of how a change in one language—Simplified Chinese in this case—can have a big effect on how other languages show up in statistics.

That having been said, the other languages did not see any particularly large changes in the June survey, which would suggest that the number of Japanese-language users on the platform is increasing. This rise would coincide with the growing number of games being released on PC in Japan. Recently, even CyberConnect2 president Hiroshi Matsuyama pointed out the high percentage of Steam users among Japanese students.

As the number of users of a certain language increases, games start to prioritize adding support for that language. In that sense, the rising number of Japanese-language users is a great thing for PC gamers in Japan.
I scoured several japanese blogs, such as Twitter, 2ch and 2chan among others.
One 2chan thread devolved into consolewar shitposting but the general sentiment across all sites remain the same:
  • Next-gen consoles, especially the PS5, shat the bed hard.
  • Nintendo/Mobile + Steam is the best combo.
  • Everyone is releasing games on Steam.
  • Sales are better.
  • The japanese love modding.
  • Teens are watching Vtubers and playing FPS games.
And this is just coming off of another drama where the CyberConnect2 president commented on how all the new gamedev students in Japan don't want to buy a PS5 because 80% of them already have Steam.
松山洋@サイバーコネクトツー on Twitter アンケートを取ると、現在の学生さんのSteamプレイ状況は以下のような感じでした.png
Recently, whenever I hold a lecture at a video game-related school or academy, I always ask the students this question: “What game consoles do you own?”

Switch=90%
Mobile=100%
PS4=70%
PS5=10%
Xbox=1%

When I see these kinds of answers, I realize that they have not done the bare minimum of preparation to pursue a career in the game industry.

After working hard to apply for a job at a game company and getting employed, if you get assigned to a team developing games for next-generation consoles, do you plan to tell them something like, “I’m going to learn from now on”?

You can’t make state-of-the-art game software if you aren’t familiar with the latest technology and platform services available. Why do you assume that things will be fine even if you don’t?
It does prove he's sadly out of touch with the current industry, by being stuck to the past like it's still the 2000's. The INDIE LIVE Expos are a good example of a majority of new upcoming japanese indies & doujin developers being released on Switch, Mobile and especially Steam. And they're getting rewarded for it as such.

SIE being an incompetent fuck, and the aforementioned influence of Vtubers, truly led to a renaissance of PC gaming in Japan.

Very interesting data. Also, what a gigantically retarded take from that mouth breather. Basically aiming for the big boys is what's killing a lot of the industry.

I tried Spider-Man on PS4 and it wasn't that fun. It neither felt like a good old Spider-Man game nor a good modern cape-game like Arkham. I will admit to having DC bias, but really, Arkham still blows Insomniac's efforts out of the water in making a way more entertaining game and one that hooks the player right from the beginning. Spider-Man feels like a lot of Arkham mechanics, but made worse and I cannot explain why that is.

I call bullshit on your statement.

This. As a kid, I was more into X-Men and Batman, as well more niche characters like Spawn or Hellboy. Spiderman is made for Barney loving babies.
I'm not a capeshit guy by any means, but I can understand Batman. He has no superpowers, but he's just like, this maxed-out human being. In top physical shape, smarter than anyone else, wealthy beyond measure, very tragic backstory to motivate him. And then he's surrounded by all of these insane lolcows, all of which are at least somewhat grounded in reality, and that makes for an interesting basis for stories. I get it, I'm not into it, but I totally get it.

Spiderman is a sassy teenager who says le funnie quips and does le funnie dances. His backstory is that he got bitten by a radioactive spider one day and oopsie daisy he's a superhero. Because, you know, he was designed during a time when there was a lot of optimism about nuclear power. Though I guess Spiderman's perfect for autistic kids to project themselves onto, because he's this colorful sassy guy who moves really fast and makes cool guy poses, just like Sonic the Hedgehog.

I'm not as big into capeshit as I was as a kid, but yea, Batman has been a sorta very grounded character who owns his own billion dollar enterprise. It's a far cry from most other DC and Marvel properties quite honestly. Spiderman just has the same old tiresome 90s-era radical cool attitude with, like you stated, a very sassy attitude, which is cool for children, but it's more depressing when sad middle-aged manchildren adore stuff like this, as well as Sonic or Star Wars or anything else under the sun, expecting them to be made for the big guys.

it's also a fucking retarded sentiment, that's not out of touch, that is kotaku-tier retardation where I have to wonder if that dude has a clue about how shit even works. how the fuck does he expect some random indie to get his hands on a fucking CONSOLE DEV KIT, does he think sony and nintendo hand them out to everyone? of course when you start somewhere for console development you have to start from zero, because there is no other way. not to mention most development is still done on fucking PC and then gets optimized, does he believe people code on a fucking switch? it matters if you can code or do assets, does he think anyone goes "um, sorry, I'm a PEECEE DEVELOPER, I can only develop in 8k with javascript"?

shit like this makes me go full tophat.

but it's more depressing when sad middle-aged manchildren adore stuff like this, as well as Sonic or Star Wars or anything else under the sun, expecting them to be made for the big guys.
before disney shat the bad there was nothing wrong with star wars or most other pop culture, because the property itself appealed to all ages, and alongside it generate nostalgia. I enjoyed the fuck out of sonic cd as a wee lad, of course I have fond memory of that - but that doesn't mean I rush and buy everything with a blue hedgehog on it.
hollywood and vidya devs thinking "for kids" means it can be brainless goyslop that's so infantilized it only appeals to soitards is one of the reasons almost everything is so shit now; and on the other end of the spectrum "mature" means constant swearing, unlikable characters behaving like cunts, "deep" issues like MUH RACISM that aren't entertaining at all, and gore because DUDE SO GORY. no one is entertained by any of that shit or is gonna remember it fondly.

I think a big part of it is that the combat in Spider Man felt like it had no power. In the Arkham gamed you heard the enemies' bones breaking from your punches, but even mooks don't provide that feedback.

Of course there aren't going to be many new sales for 360 games, the main purpose of BC is that people can play games they already own. In the 1.5 years that I've owned a Series S, I've only bought two new 360 games, but being able to play the many digital 360 games I already owned at higher resolutions and better framerates was one of the main reasons I bought the system. That's not even counting the fact that old physical games are most likely going to be bought used.

Backwards compatibility, especially for multiple generations back, doesn't sell games; it sells consoles.

I was specifying Superhero movies. I would have watched Dr. Strange but apparently it ties in with a tv show I haven't watched. Ditto dor Spiderman and Avengers bullshit. I am beyond done with watching advertisements disguised as movies and tv shows.

Batman is just really well-rounded and the most thought out for cape-shit. There are so many angles to take Batman as it is a mix of crime-drama, noir, horror and even family drama. Gotham itself is a massive draw for the character as it truly is this Tim Burton hell-hole where dark realism clashes with the absurd. It creates this mystery as to how it all works and what forces are at play at any given moment. Batman also has a great cast, ignoring the villains, the father-son dynamic between him and the Robins is a pretty big draw and lends itself nicely into other popular DC shit like Teen Titans. Batman really mastered how to create dynamics between world, side characters, villains and the hero in a way that no other cape-shit did. While some had 1-2 aspects, very few got all, with world-building typically being the downfall.

It is pretty obvious that Batman did better at all this too, as Spider-Man seems to be trying to ape of him more and more, creating sidekicks and trying to change the villains to be more sympathetic like Batman's. I would say a draw to Raimi was really how much they changed Green Goblin and Dr. Octavious to be more tragic cases rather than assholes.

Spiderman is a sassy teenager who says le funnie quips and does le funnie dances. His backstory is that he got bitten by a radioactive spider one day and oopsie daisy he's a superhero. Though I guess Spiderman's perfect for autistic kids to project themselves onto, because he's this colorful sassy guy who moves really fast and makes cool guy poses, just like Sonic the Hedgehog.
The big draw for Spider-Man was his sex-life. Most of the big narratives focus on who he is banging, be it MJ, Gwen or Black Cat and the tragedy of him never getting pussy for very long. Spider-Man also has the depressed hero thing as his life is basically hell 24/7, but he doesn't quit being a super because "with great power, comes great responsibility." He is a well-designed character that fits a teen audience as much of his struggle is every day romances and jobs and whatever else. I think the main issue with him is lack of anything outside the Peter world and where Spider-Man conflicts with it, leading to non-stop stories of him being a failure as nothing but his love life seems to have that much weight.

I think a big part of it is that the combat in Spider Man felt like it had no power. In the Arkham gamed you heard the enemies' bones breaking from your punches, but even mooks don't provide that feedback.
Another issue is the cutscene feel to the start of the game. Rather than putting out basic thugs like Arkham does, everyone has a gun right from the beginning, making learning combat fairly difficult. The game was more focused on being cinematic with a big action set piece then warming you up. Batman lacked story and massive set peices, but in return, the games held way better flow.
