It's illegal in California for an employer to try to influence employees' voting, prevent them from engaging in political activity outside of the workplace, or to coerce, influence, control, or direct employees' political activities outside of the workplace. Retaliating against employees for political activity outside of the workplace is illegal.
That specifically pertains to employers though, so I'm not sure how the law would apply if co-workers were harassing/refusing to work with other co-workers. I could see an argument made that it's an intolerable work environment, and if someone had repeatedly complained to management and then finally quit because of the harassment they could come back with a claim that their employer constructively terminated them by failing to do anything to address the intolerable conduct that forced them to quit.
