MONROE, N.C. (WBTV/Gray News) - An 18-year-old has died in North Carolina after meeting a person they met online for a date.
Promise Edwards told WBTV that she had no idea when she said goodbye to Jacob Williamson the night of June 30 that it would be the last time she would see him.

“The last thing I told him was “I love you, and see you in the morning,”' Edwards said.

According to Edwards, she has been a family friend of Williamson for years and knew him since birth.
She said Williamson was born with the first name of Kierstyn but began transitioning to a man, including changing his first name.
Edwards said some of his family members initially didn’t accept his change, so she welcomed him into her home. She said he had been living with her for about the last couple of months and it gave him a safe space to be himself for the first time in his life.

“This world was so cruel to Jacob his entire life,” Edwards said. “I find peace in knowing that in the last month and a half, he found peace.”
According to Union County Sheriff’s Office, Williamson also began an online relationship with a man named Joshua Newton within the same last couple of months.
Authorities said Newton drove about two hours from the Monroe area to pick up Williamson in Laurens, S.C., for a date on June 30.
Newton reportedly brought Williamson back to a home in Monroe, where police said he killed the 18-year-old.

Williamson’s body was found about 10 miles away from the house in question, police said.

Newton has since been arrested and is facing charges that include first-degree murder and obstruction of justice. His live-in girlfriend, Victoria Smith, was also taken into custody.
According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, Smith is facing charges of obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact.

Edwards said she hopes that parents will hear Williamson’s story and be extra vigilant at monitoring who their children are speaking with online.
“Please express to them how unsafe it is to go with people online, how unsafe it is to get in the car with anybody that they don’t know,” Edwards said. “Because this is our reality now. Our reality is missing somebody that never deserved to go away like this.”

Currently, authorities said there isn’t enough evidence to confirm the killing as a hate crime but their investigation is continuing.

im surprised you dont hear stories like this more often. i remember when everyone said you should not meet strangers on the internet because this can happen.
I've said this about similar stories, and I'll say it again here:

The "Wild West" era of the internet is over, and since it's ended people believe old safeguards about privacy and not meeting strangers are obsolete. After all, Google/Meta/Apple/Amazon/Netflix/whatever makes you provide your name, email, address, credit card number, gender, ethnicity, and a semen sample, so the people on the internet have to be who they say they are. The only people who have something to hide are criminals!

Well, as it turns out, the Wild West elements have simply been driven underground. They haven't been fully stamped out.

The corporatization of the internet has been a disaster.

Now they actively encourage "trans youth" to talk to strangers on Discord.
"We're all just one big glitter family! You can trust us, we love and understand you! Hey, I've got a great idea! Let's hook up irl!"

And I bet pooner Jacob there thought she was manly enough to handle whatever happened too. She wasn't justa weak and vulnerable girl anymore.

You aren't going to hear about these stories when there are huge companies (Tinder, Uber, Doordash, etc) that have a vested interest in monetizing strangers on the internet.

What if getting raped and murdered by a wacko online stranger gives me gender euphoria, though?

I know it's kind of rare, but stuff like this makes me wonder why online dating got so popular (aside from it being easy). People are insane, and you're going to go over to some chick's house because you'll totally get laid and she's into you? Alright, have fun dude, maybe apply to the kidney transplant list ahead of time to be safe.

I saw an article about this last night. No mention of her being a pooner in this one. This one includes quotes from the actual mother.

UNION COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – The Union County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man and woman after finding a body that is believed to be of a missing 18-year-old from Laurens.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies began their investigation into the disappearance of 18-year-old Kierstyn Williamson, of Laurens on Sunday, July 2, after she was reported missing by family members to Laurens County authorities.

Investigators said she was last seen by her family on the evening of June 30th. They said she willingly got into the car of someone she was dating online.

Officials said after 36 hours of an extensive search they found the body of a woman believed to be Williamson in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, and are waiting for confirmation from the medical examiner.

“She was my first born, she’s the one who made me a mama,” said Brittney Shealy, Williamson’s mother.

“It’s not right, it’s not right at all, she should be here, she should be at work, she should be living her best life and she’s not.”

Authorities began looking into her private life and found she had met a man online.

“We believe that the dating relationship led to some comfort between Newton and Miss Williamson, which ultimately led to her getting in the car with Josh that night,” said Lieutenant James Maye.

Lieutenant James Maye said the victim was sharing her location with her family.

“Family members knew she was leaving with Mr. Newton. There was just a perception that this was a dating relationship type thing, they were going on a date, and ultimately it ended up in her death, sadly,” he said.

The investigation crossed state lines, investigators believed she was in Monroe, North Carolina.

“We started our investigation from there, we were not able to locate her until late yesterday afternoon, when we found her deceased just over the South Carolina line, just about 7 miles away from the residence where we believed she was,” he said.

In North Carolina, the Union County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 25

Following the 36-hour investigation, two suspects, 25-year-old Joshua Newton and 22-year-old Victoria Smith were later taken into custody.

Newton is facing first-degree murder and obstruction of justice charges and Smith, his live in girlfriend, is charged with obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact.

“As far as we can tell right now, her involvement began when the victim was transported from the suspect’s residence to where we eventually found her,” said Maye.

Williamson’s mother, Brittney Shealy, wants justice for her child.

“I want him to sit in jail for the rest of his life, while I send him fliers each and every day to make him remember why he’s in there, what he’s done to my baby,” she said.

Shealy said her daughter loved to sing and draw, and was filled with life.

“It’s hard because one minute she was here and the next minute, she’s gone,” she said.

Newton is being held without bond and Smith’s bond has been set at $3 million dollars. Both are still in custody.

Investigators are still working to establish a motive and will not be releasing the cause of death until they get the medical examiner’s report.

This is an ongoing investigation.

So a down low fag cheating on his live in who got angry when "Jacob" turned up dickless? With the inevitable result, but still relied upon said gf to help him stash the corpse?

Very strange.

Might have been one of those "I'm okay with you having a male fuck, but if you bring back a female one that's cheating!" situations.

It's autism-friendly. You know you're there for a date with someone who has admitted being somewhat interested in you. No reading of social cues needed!

Also allows you to automate and remove the friction from a lot of the rejection in approaching women. It's not surprising at all that it's taken off. (And, ultimately, it's just another way to meet people. Some of whom are inevitably insane.)

And I remember when I was younger I'd still text my friends to tell them the address I was at and when to expect another text from me. Do kids not do this anymore?
When I grew up, we didn't have cellphones and beepers were reserved for doctors and drug dealers. I feel so fucking old when I read posts like yours. Thanks, I'm going to go take my Geritol and have a glass of Metamucil now.

Not going to post the whole article because this is the only relevant info I saw that hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet:
The person told deputies that Williamson had met a man named Joshua Newton on Facebook and agreed to take a trip with him to Carowinds. According to the person, Newton picked up Williamson from the Waffle House on 221 North on June 30. The person said Williamson continued to respond to messages after leaving but stopped responding after 11:40 p.m.
