Don’t know who the Rock is, but yeah, Patrick Stewart is a good example. Balding was an iconic part of his look, but it wasn’t a good look despite this. In fact one of the reasons he got his Star Trek role was because the showrunners wanted to send a message that “in the future we have moved beyond vanity”. He looked okay despite balding, and that was in itself remarkable. Most bald and balding men, imo, look fucking awful.

I was using a great deal of hyperbole. Obviously most troons look horrible, balding ones even more so than most. But most of them do get to keep their hair, and I can sympathise with having an identity crisis over that. If I were to lose my hair I would probably kill myself, or at least very seriously consider it. It’s a huge part of my identity and the thing about my body for which I am most proud. My hair looks great. Wouldn’t (some?) men feel the same way about theirs? I get that it’s not socially acceptable for men to be vain, especially about their hair, but in private don’t you care at least a little? If I were losing my hair and taking the wrong hormones could possibly fix that, I’d probably see the other stuff it does as acceptable side effects.

Its like growing old. It sucks, but it is a lot better than the alternative. Men gets bald, and women get stretchmarks and saggy tits.

Some women are obsessed by their tits and take every opportunity to gaze at them whenever they pass a mirror then spend shedloads of money on cosmetic surgery to increase their size/decrease their size/raise them up a bit, whatever.

Other women go through life braless and never give them a second thought. The first sniff of breast cancer and they have them both whipped off in a double mastectomy and take no pains to replace them with falsies.

Men are just the same about their hair. Some men -- particularly those who start losing it early in life -- get obsessed with it and spend all manner of money attempting to conceal the loss, starting with combovers, progressing to pharmacotherapy and then transplants.

Other men just don't think it's important and deal with it. The men I've known who fall into this category recognize that their major strength when it comes to attracting the opposite sex lies elsewhere besides how much hair they have on the top of their dome.

On reflection, that's also true with regard to women and their tits. The women who are obsessed with how good they look tend to consider them their key feature when it comes to attracting a mate. "How will I ever meet/keep a man without a stunning pair of breasts?"

They tend not to be the sharpest tools in the box.

I don’t doubt it’s all about sex for some men, but for all of them? I know I can’t really relate, but when I put effort into looking good I’m not doing it because I want sex, I’m doing it because I want to feel confident and because I want people to think I look good (including other women). Attracting a partner is just about the last thing on my mind, when I got married I didn’t just stop caring about my appearance, even though by this logic I should have stopped wasting time, money, and effort on it.

I guess I'm that outlier, I really don't tend to care bout how I look except for the hair part cause I don't want to bald in my 20s but other than that no, I generally want to look younger but I don't pursue it seriously. I know looking good is a skill in and of itself with ton of effort involved but I generally want to be comfortable in clothing and the like, not look good necessarily. Gym shorts and tshirts always feel much better than formal clothing or anything else does. That said I do want to have a duster coat or a trenchcoat in my wardrobe cause I would love to wear one.
