Something Naruto gets shat on for doing is the characters having compassion for one another, and actually fucking showing it by trying to talk things out.
Sure, it ends up going too far with it during the final arcs, but the point still stands. Using empathy, and trying to talk people out of hurting themselves, or other people isn't a bad thing-at least within reason.
Think of the Naruto versus Gaara fight where Naruto gets through to Gaara just by saying he knows how he feels, and how terrible it is. Just by doing that small act of compassion, he completely changed Gaara from a total monster to one of the kindest people in the series.
And you know, I can't help but think of how little those scenes happen in AoT, and how much it would've benefited from having more of them. Because the only time I can think of one happening in the series is during the Serum Bowl when Hange tried to stop a fight by hugging Mikasa, and saying she knew how awful it was to lose someone you love, and you know what?
It fucking worked.
