SAN DIEGO (AP) — Two weeks after a 14-year-old girl’s grandmother reported that she had run away in early June, the teenager was found in an unusual location: Inside the barracks at a California Marine Corps base north of San Diego.

Federal law enforcement officials said Monday that they are investigating and had taken a Marine with the Combat Logistics Battalion 5, 1st Marine Logistics Group into custody briefly for questioning. He has since been released to his command while the investigation continues, said Marine Capt. Charles Palmer of the 1st Marine Logistics Group at Camp Pendleton, about 40 miles (65 kilometers) north of San Diego.

“This command takes this matter and all allegations very seriously,” Palmer said in a statement emailed to The Associated Press.

It was unclear how long the teenager was at the barracks and whether she was spotted by other Marines who reported her presence. She was found by military police during the day on June 28 after her grandmother had reported her missing on June 13. Military and law enforcement officials declined to release other details.

All visitors are stopped at the entrance to the sprawling base by Marines and required to show authorization to enter the base. Marines are allowed to bring a visitor on base and into the barracks until a certain hour, which varies according to each building.

Single junior Marines are generally assigned to the barracks where most share a room with at least one other Marine. The rooms generally have two single beds, a small refrigerator, eating area, secretary desk, closet and wall lockers. The barracks also have common areas with pool tables and TVs.

It was also unclear how the girl and the Marine came into contact and whether they had met online or in person. Military officials declined to release the Marine’s age or rank.

According to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, her grandmother reported her missing on June 13 and told authorities she had run away from home four days earlier. The grandmother told the deputy who interviewed her that the girl had run away before but only for brief periods.

The teen’s information was entered into multiple missing person databases, including the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the sheriff’s department said.

After she was found on base, authorities returned the girl to her grandmother, according to the sheriff’s department.

The case has been handed over to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, the federal agency in charge of investigating Navy and Marine Corps criminal cases.

NCIS spokesman Jeff Houston said no one has been arrested or charged in the case. He said the Marine was detained for questioning and released back to his command. The sheriff’s department and the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force are assisting the investigation.

In other military happenings, someone drove a hummer through the front of the 3rd ID HQ today:

ATLANTA — One person is in custody Monday after crashing a military vehicle into the front of the 3rd Infantry Division’s headquarters building at Fort Stewart, officials at the Georgia Army post said.

The person, who has not been identified, drove the vehicle into Fort Stewart’s Building 1 at about 10 a.m., said Kevin Larson, a base spokesman. The crash destroyed the glass door entrance to the building that houses the 3rd Infantry Division’s commanding general and the headquarters staff.

No one was injured in the crash, Larson said. There was no active threat to the Fort Stewart community, he added.

The driver was taken into custody, and the Army Criminal Investigation Division and Fort Stewart military police were on the scene to investigate, Larson said.

With the investigation ongoing, Larson declined to provide further information about the incident, including whether the person taken into custody was a service member or civilian.

Officials also did not specify the kind of military vehicle that crashed into the headquarters building, but a photo posted on the popular social media platform Reddit appears to show a Humvee crashed into its glass front doors.

The incident comes about one week after an Army National Guard Humvee was stolen from an armory in Santa Rosa, Calif., law enforcement and National Guard officials said last week. California Highway Patrol officials told the Los Angeles Times that the Humvee stolen July 3 had been spotted in recent days driving on state highways near Sacramento, but it had not been recovered.

Fingers crossed this is just some runaway or some shit who wanted to live with her dad and he was dumb enough to try this.

In all likelihood it's probably some el goblino mutt practicing something he picked up from Afghanistan.

Marines living on base in the barracks are going to be like 18-24, they arent fathers of 14 year olds.

That's what happens when you recruit with shit like this:

Even under normal circumstances, weebshit makes noncery spread like a yeast infection. Now compound it by introducing it to Lcpl. Schmuckatelli, who can't tell the difference between real life and cartoons.

Sir she said she was 18.
She was 18 sir. i'm a college student marine and I know what 18 year olds look like
- private lucas werner, enlisting to get his promised government mandated zoomer bae girlfriend after travelling to san diego from spokane to enlist and getting turned in by his bigot trump supporting barracks roommate who was pissed off because he took up all the space in their fridge with toasterbortion food that made the chow hall food look gourmet

I won't be the least bit surprised if they pull this excuse. No way she got onto that base without multiple people knowing about it. Somebody saw her that wasn't supposed to and reported it

Sadly noncery has been a huge problem in the military long before this. In 1995 three black Navy men raped a 12 year old girl in Japan for instance.

If anything this probably recruited people who think 3D pig disgusting so they aren't going around raping.

WE DON'T FORM UP IN THE PARKING LOT EVERY FRIDAY BECAUSE THE CO LIKES LOOKING AT THE FUCKING PARKING LINES! THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING SNEAKING AN UNDERAGE GIRL IN THE BARRACKS?! Not as unusual as it sounds. I had a roommate's friend ask to use my car one night, and when pressed for why; long story short, he wanted to put her in my trunk to sneak her on base. Told him me and my car are not gonna be party to that fucking insanity. And why in the trunk of my car you may ask; "she's 18, but doesn't have a driver's license or ID."

Yes... of course she doesn't.

Those wall lockers pull double duty as female body hiders; just in case anyone is wondering about the timeline of the girl going missing on the 9th of June and not being found till the 28th. Not gonna lie, 19 days is a pretty impressive record; never knew anyone who kept a girl longer than a week.
