Hot take. I actually support SAG-AFTRA and the Wriiters Guild. They are fighting the Abominable Intelligence in order to preserve the sanctity of the human mind against the covetous managerial class who just wants ever more efficient means to extract money from a credulous "consoomer" base.

That said, the President of SAG-AFTRA seems completely confused about why they are being betrayed. Bitch, us deplorable chuds have been warning you ass holes for YEARS this day would come. NOW you call for labor solidarity? After you've shat on us for decades?

That said. Relevant.

SAG-AFTRA Contract Talks Fail To Reach Deal; National Board Meeting Thursday Morning To Launch Strike; Sides Issue Statements

NetFlix et al might be okay letting the writers cope and seethe, but I'm not so sure they're willing to do it for the on-screen talent. If for no other reason than that nothing will get promoted, no red carpet premieres, etc. One can hope, though. One can hope.
Oh boy. Unlike 7/8ths of the writers, at least half the actors earn the amounts they're paid (but none of them are worth the worship). Now all we need is the VFX artists to strike and hollowood will be lubelessly boned. 🚬

So the lesson I take from this is that anime stocks are going to double as normies now starved for "entertainment" now look outside America
Not only anime but the koreans have been racking up points in the entertainment game with their live action dramas and their youtube stuff. Netflix even announced to pumping up more korean shit because nobody is watching US-made stuff as much as they did when it started. Shouldn't have "referenced" and "made homages" to the East so much, writers.

all we need is the VFX artists to strike
I'm honestly shocked this hasn't happened yet considering how ridiculously abused VFX are across the industry by now; those working conditions can't be great + I've heard unrelated bitching and moaning from VFX guys (albeit much quieter than the paid drama queens' tantrums) about their jobs being pretty shit

Maybe it's just a matter of time? Ngl if they started striking before 2024 while these two strikes were still ongoing it'd be hilarious

They're going to find out how little they mean to overall society.

They make well above the average income and can only write sequels, remakes, or capeshit. They all larp as working class while many have graduate from T15 universities. This won't go the way they think it will.
Its wasn't always that way. The reason most of them are hired out of T15 universities is because the corporations know they are fucking desperate, saddled with debt and will be willing to eat literal shit if it means they can have the prestige of having their name appear in the end credits of literal fucking trash written by trained monkeys.

All the great films were made by autistic retards with a camera, an idea, a few thousand dollars and a gift card to McDonalds. Stephen Spielberg never went to college and made his first movie at the age of 12 FFS. The entire College-Movie Industrial complex was specifically designed to maximize profit by turning out dependent monkeys to bang wrenches so they could pay back their debts, not to actually make good art. AI generated movies and scripts is simply the final form of this managerial mindset. Its why all cinema fucking sucks ass now, and its why these people are "replaceable". They were ALWAYS replaceable. Its just that now AI is cheaper to replace them then even the (current year) trained monkeys coming out of Cal-Arts at this point.

I don't think SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild fully appreciate the pickle they are in. The game has been rigged from the start, and only NOW do they choose to fight. Well I want to see some actual fight before I pick up my rifle and support them. Lets see an unapproved "Peaceful Protest" in front of the Disney Studio's in Burbank. I want to see Daisy Ridley get fucking Night Sticked by the LAPD for daring to demand better working condition from her slave masters. If I see that, I will back this labor strike all the way.

That said, I don't think this was accidental. My Autism was activated.

I am not entirely sure about this. I have heard the average salary for a writer is about $85,000. Now this isn't probably the best way to analyze the situation: The median gives a more accurate depiction of general salary for an SGA employee and we have to take into consideration the cost-of-living in the respective area.

I will say this: I haven't seen a modern movie in a very, very long time. I don't feel like my life has been any less because of this, something tells me others have a similar sentiment. The industry may want to stop preaching and focus more on originality and filtering out the more toxic work culture.

VFX artist's actually don't have an official union, though there are currently efforts to change that.

One problem for the VFX people though is that Hollywood has already been outsourcing a lot of the efforts out to India (part of the reason the VFX on so many Marvel titles have gone downhill when they used to be some of the best in the industry), and unionization efforts are probably only going to convince the studios to go ahead and outsource 100%.

Which has probably led to this civil war in tinsel town. For those that don't Know, the "AFTRA" part of the SAG-AFTRA includes the TV Personalities you see on MSNBC. And the Radio announcers on NPR. SAG-AFTRA is borderline a government agency at this point, and in order to do this strike they had to specifically exempt their CIA Assets...sorry, "Journalists" from the Strike. So NPR, MSNBC, PBS and so on will continue to dutifully report the news while acting like Scabs in all but name.

I have the popcorn out to see how this will go if this strike turns nasty, which I fully expect it will. AI is an extistential threat to these people and they simply cannot back down from the demand that their contracts prohibit the use of their likeness and acting in AI generation. Disney's fucktarded use of Carrie Fisher in "The Rise of Skywalker" was the Pearl Harbor moment for SAG, and we are now seeing the results of that manifest in real time.

This is actually a huge break, because SAG-AFTRA is supposed to be a captured Union like the ones that exist in Communist China. It does not strike. It tows the party line, and the party ALWAYS does what is good for the workers. So there is never a need for a strike. The fact that they HAVE struck has me absolutely fascinated. I even listened to NPR for the first time in years and listening to those weasels squirm as they said "While we are part of SAG-AFTRA we are not part of the strike" was absolutely hilarious too me. It was the most fun I have had listening to NPR in years!

"What is happening to us is happening across all fields of labor."

So then where's the outcry over the Norfolk Southern Union's strike over safety concerns getting stamped out before it could get off the ground, the consequences of which caused East Palestine to happen?

Get fucked, Hollywood.

So then where's the outcry over the Railroad Union's strike over safety concerns getting stamped out before it could get off the ground, the consequences of which caused East Palestine to happen?
Truth. And you know what? Ever since I listened to those NPR Weasels do their "due dilligence" disavowing their participation in the strike, and after listening to the SAG-AFTRA Presidents speech, I've realized I need to rely on a much wiser man then me for guidance in trying times. So I am going to go with J.R.R. Tolkien.

Yes, SAG and Company have sat in their white tower ignoring the burning of the westfold. But higher principles must be defended. Oaths must be honored etc. A.I. is not just a threat to SAG. Its a threat to everyone. The all seeing Eye of Sauron lording over the face of the earth unto the ending of all things. It cannot be tolerated. And while SAG sat in their white tower ignoring the peril for years, they will be the first to fall as the A.I. Revolution gets under way.

It cannot be allowed to happen. All Labor unions need to join with them. Go grab your shift managers and start beating some sense into them. General Strike.

My opinion is that people should support this strike:
1. As much as they are upper class, they are still human and their requests are understandable.
2. Anything that damages the stranglehold of Disney et al. will likely lead to a revitalization of the industry and a perhaps a heal in societal discourse. Remember, writers are a self-sustaining system, they spring from a cultural discourse that is currently dominated. Who dominates the discourse? Why the corps, of course.

You don't have to love them or forget that they hate them. If they manage to make any sort of dent in the industry, then it'll be beneficial for everyone.

As the felon who made the subtitle of this thread "Fuck these people" I do honestly appreciate tempered pushback. It's very difficult for me to feel anything other utter contempt for these people.

And now I will complete the argument.

The simple truth is all professional and skilled jobs, from the Screen Actor to the Truck Driver, are on the cusp of being replaced by machines. The crutch of humanity that will make us servile is here. Its a glorious future that is being promised! Media (and porn) on Demand. Just ask the nice computer what you want and the computer shall provide. Want your cheap branded goyslop? Just tap on your phone. It will be delivered by drone to your door in 5 minutes. Have a complaint about the quality of the slop? Just call the "customer service" line and talk to a TRUE AND HONEST HUMAN (always with a female voice) who will listen so attentively to your cries! Be infinitely attentive and respond expeditiously to your demands. "She" may even send another drone with a replacement package of slop!

And when you go to bed, you will tell a similarly female sounding voice in your bedroom to wake you up in 8 hours so you can go to work shoveling shit, because at this point AI still has not managed to replace the ditch diggers, but fear not. Its being worked on.

This technology is going to destroy every union. Not just SAG. Its going to take out the longshoremen, the teamsters, even the fucking Public Sector Unions, because Lord Knows the Government can probably replace half of the assholes who work for them with computers already.

SAG is just the first to go, because they are not "important", and I would argue have been dressed up like turkeys by their "managers" for the slaughter. There has never been a more unlikeable bunch of narcissitic assholes then the screen actors guild and the writers guild. But in this specific instance they are 100% in the right and every Chud needs to sit up and take notice. The fact that they are so confused why the rest of the labor unions are ignoring their plight is hilarious, but the situation presented is not funny in the slightest. This is quite literally "First they came for".

Workers of the world unite.

Humans had their chance and turned everything into gay nigger shit. Let's see what the machines can do.
Which is inevitable sadly. I feel like I have been screaming into the void for a decade now after I saw how this technology was used in warfare. People just can't quit it. It makes life so "easy". It also makes it very easy to dehumanize everything. Reduce the sum total of an entire human life to an excel spread sheet. I did that. For 15 months and years later it kills me inside. Every day. But now, there won't be people like me anymore. Those excel spreadsheets will be curated by AI's, and they won't care at all.

I'm sitting here now, on a god damn cell phone tether in a place with no internet connection whatsoever raging against the ultimate revolution. In the one place I can still do it. A god damn dark web forum forced onto the Tor Onion circuits. SAG is in the right. The screen writers guild is in the right. They may be faggots, but they are right.

So to my black pilled zoomie zoomer frens, take this from a buck broken millennial. Get ready for the revolution.

And if you zoomies want a White Pill, well, the Emperor Protects.

I'm not so worried. AIs like Chat-GPT are basically con men, They can't understand when they're not knowledgeable/wrong about something, which is something fundamental and difficult to fix.

More importantly, AI needs a body of some kind to actually replace the majority of jobs. In many cases, even if such a machine would be possible, it would be easier/cheaper to just hire a human. Even for something like data analytics, AI is at best an augment, not total replacement, for human analysts, because the AI is incapable of realizing its own mistakes, which snowball if left unattended.

I'm sure some jobs will indeed cease to exist, but there will also be new jobs and types of jobs that crop up. Predicting this sort of thing is almost impossible, i.e. someone 100 years ago couldn't even begin to conceive of a social media manager job.

Good, I hope AI replaces as many of them as possible. You're a writer, your only job is to tell a compelling story. If a fucking autism engine can do that better than you, then you've failed miserably and you should go pump gas for a living. Of all the jobs, this should be the one where man easily outshines the machine - evoking deep human emotions through narrative. Saying that you need to strike to beat the machines is just an admission that you were never 'writers' to being with, just sad nepotism cases.

The crutch of humanity that will make us servile is here.
Servile to what? Servile in what way?

How exactly do you expect an AI-run-everything to not immediately go bankrupt due to having 0 customer base from the lack of any employed people capable of paying them? The AIs will farm up food for 20 billion people and then everyone will starve because no one can afford it? Mansions will litter the landscape, outnumbering people 5 to 1, and all sitting empty?

Anyways, the core of your entire complaint is the broken window fallacy, plain and simple. It is the core of most anti-automation complaints. AI putting someone out of work by doing their job as well as they could at 1% of the cost is no different from a child putting a glasier out of work by not throwing a brick through a storefront window. The good and service is still provided, the things people want in life are still there, and there is one less person having to work for it: one more person who can go do something more fulfilling or creative or enjoyable or whatever.

The only thing that ends up missing is, of course, 1 job. That is the loose little hanging thread you want to tug on but don't quite know how. Society has never reached a point where there is active demand for jobs for the sake of jobs, nor would it be capable of doing so. The meme of ditch digging and ditch filling is a simple proof that jobs have 0 cost to create. Jobs that have a paycheck, of course, are a different issue. An issue I figure is still very, very far off.

Back to the topic at hand: Well, there isn't really any side to side with in my opinion. Neither the industry, unions, individuals, or any other involved entity is particularly relevant to me or capable of eliciting much sympathy from me. Most of them seem to be obsolete in one way or another. Century-old traditions of 'this is how it is done here' seems to be a very common tone throughout all of it, and I am beginning to suspect that the only reason there is so much money involved is because of all of the money involved. I think it would be a wonderful result if there never was any agreement whatsoever-- let all the unions permanently go on strike, all the union members on an individual level slowly realize they're happy with going to do some non-union gig for a reasonable employer under a pseudonym if it means they get to actually work in their field, production companies realize they're going to need to do some non-union productions with shell companies offering reasonable terms while they wait things out, and watch as things stay oddly reasonable across the board. It could kick off a whole new golden age of cinema where all the names in the credits are fake.

I side with the corpos. The ESG boogieman is a lot of cope blaming a single body for western entertainment being horrific. What really pushed nigger worship and sodomy into being the primary USA state religion is the middle/upper class pushing their ideologies inside those organisations, primarily by women doing worthless jobs.

Having AI replace them is removing the cancer and at least giving the hope of worthwhile media.

But that's the thing, though. The industry already seems AI-generated for the most part. Hollywood was using AI to find out which movies to make and which movies to reboot.
