The answer is the Wraithverge from Hexen, obviously. Whatever you were thinking is wrong.

It's a sick-ass staff that shoots out these bombs that explode into a bunch of angry ghosts that fly around screaming and tearing everything apart. It's cool as shit.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Grenade Launcher for the Demoman in TF2.
If you can hit those pills, it's one of the most rewarding guns in any FPS. If you're even slightly off your game, it's hell.

I never had Halo 3, but the energy sword in 2 was pretty much the coolest thing I had ever seen at the time. Man, the sound effects were so satisfying.

Firebomb from Rise of the Triad is pretty cool, rocket hits an enemy, goes boom, and then goes boom sixteen more times in a cross pattern, if you're christian not saying that this is the coolest weapon is blasphemy. Flak Cannon from Unreal is also pretty cool, it's a grenade launcher/shotgun, but because it literally smashes its ammunition into large chunks of hot shrapnel it's more metal than your ordinary boring shotgun, and the grenade that it fires in its normal mode has a smiley face on it, which is funny.

Shotguns are always great but can end up being a little vanilla, just a bit to basic. Marathon 2 fixed this by make theirs a sawed off double barrel shotgun that always fires both shells to accommodate for the fact your holding two. You also reload your akimbo double barreled sawed offs like Arny Schwarz in Terminator 2. The only shotgun that can compare is the F.E.A.R shotgun for just being so powerful and satisfying as you ragdoll clones in slow mo

Can't have coolest weapon talk with out talking about the absolute banger known as the Cerebral Bore.

This little shit locks onto a enemy homes into it's head burrows into the skull making a fountain of blood from the entry point as it makes it's way to the brain. It will then EXPLODE THE HEAD LEAVING A STUMP FOR MORE BLOOD TO SPURT OUT.
