What is the coolest weapon out of every FPS game?

Snekposter's post in the Supernatural FPS thread reminded me one of my favorites: FEAR's Type-7 Particle Weapon. Basically a beam cannon that will instantly kill any normal enemy, causing them to explode in a shower of blood and painting the surrounding area, or disintegrating so that the only thing left is a charred, smoking skeleton.

That is easily one of my favorite weapons in F.E.A.R., along with the VK-12 Shotgun and 10mm HV Penetrator like I mentioned earlier.

Come to think about it, pretty much all the weapons in that game were amazing. I’m even tempted to rank its arsenal up there with the likes of Turok 2, Perfect Dark, and Quake 4 in terms of games with satisfying weaponry.

Was going to say cerebral bore. That farsight or whatever it was called and the slayer rockets in perfect dark were also pretty cool. Also, killing things with the charged plasma beam in metroid prime is pretty satisfying to watch as they incinerate into dust.

Farsight XR-20 from Perfect Dark. Basically sniper rifle wallhacks.

AK from counter-strike is probably the most satisfying to get headshots with. The scout also deserves mention. The deagle is too random

Killing fags going from de_inferno mid with a scout is one of the best ways to let off some steam off someone you hate in one match.

Hands down, the PSP which launches explosive UMDs from SMOD.

Another favorite of mine was the MA82 sniper in Joint Ops: Combined Arms. Nothing was more fun than maps where you could dial the scope in to hit enemy players in their main spawn as they attempted to enter helicopters...from nearly an entire map away. There was one map I remember where the main bases and specifically the helicopter spawns were actually close enough to have direct line of sight albeit at extreme range and if only just, that allowed you to engage in Total Littlebird Death basically the instant you spawned in if you knew where to look.

Special mention for Prey (2006)'s Siphon Gun. For most of the game, you used it to suck out fire or ice energy, which empowered it appropriately for solving puzzles or killing the alien nasties the sphere kept throwing at you. Near the end, you get to siphon literal sun plasma out for it. The beam is not only loud and bright, but physically pushed your dude back and left nothing but ash piles. Was pretty cathartic.

Are TPS games allowed? If so, gonna chime in for everyone's favorite ME3 sniper rifle, the Black Widow. Three rounds a mag of cover-piercing headshot delight. Honorable mention goes to the ME2 Revenant. Long may he be mourned.

If not, the Spas-12 from Trepang2. Yes, its pump action only, but if you dual wield you literally throw it up ahead of you so you can grab it by the foregrip and pump it before tossing it back into your hand, ready to fire. And you can either alternate fire to maintain a steady stream of death or double-click if you want something dead. The best part is that it somehow works even if you're running and jumping around like an Unreal Tournament player. Someone else already mentioned the Quake 4 weapons, and I'll say my fav there was the railgun.

For something unmentioned, the frag grenade from Starship Troopers: Marauder, an old and not entirely terrible FPS. What makes it special is that when you cook it a cute little pixel-tone smiley face appears on the grenade and counts down the detonation timer in a cheery tone for you. And since New Vegas is technically an FPS (or should be unless you're a third person fag), the Holy Hand Grenades of Searchlight. Damn shame they're Wild Wasteland only.

10mm HV Penetrator

So much fun, especially if you snag a mod that gives it extra long pinning distances on a kill. You'll send guys flying across the room to dangle by their wrist and ragdoll for all eternity.

I know I mentioned the weapons from Quake 4 already, but I’ll try to be a bit more specific, as I didn’t do the weapons justice yet.

It honestly has I think the best nailgun alongside F.E.A.R., especially once it is upgraded with a homing scope and a 100 round dual mag. The Hyperblaster, once upgraded, has its shots ricochet off walls, and its sound effect when firing is pure bliss. Also, the lightning gun is one of the best in the genre, especially with the chain lightning upgrade.

And I would be remiss to not mention the game’s equivalent to the BFG-9000. In this case, it’s the Dark Matter Gun, which shoots black holes. Nuff said.

Seriously, this game doesn’t get enough love for its weaponry.

If melee weapons count for this thread i would say the Mechete from POSTAL 2 would be my pick for one reason.

The ability to throw the fucker like a boomerang turning anyone unfortunate enough into limb chunks works surprisingly well and is amazing to watch as you cut down like 5 or more dudes trying to hose you with guns. Postal Dude becomes the machete warrior master of the mecheterang.

Another one of my favorites is the NPSR-755, Quill's rifle from Red Faction 2. It makes a bitchin' sound, it is pinpoint-accurate, it will fire as fast as you can pull the trigger, it has a massive magazine, and you can practically mag-dump it into someone's head from across a map and have every round strike their noggin dead-center. It has no bloom, no spread, nothing. It puts all the rounds through the same hole, like some full-on Deadshot bullshit. In fact, more often than not, you will miss simply because you fat-fingered the thumbstick and didn't line up a clean shot first. A hilariously underappreciated gun.

The Tankgewehr M1918 from Battlefield One is always fun, though it's a fight to actually get it. Love a rifle that one-shots everything, and can kill tanks, planes, cars, horses, elites, and trains.

Of the guns you can actually pick, the Maxim M1917 machinegun isn't the best gun by any means, but it's a lot of fun being able to laser-beam people from across the map and it shreds planes, which are the worst part of BF1. I hate planes.

If you learn to tap-fire it, it's basically a 250 round semi-auto sniper rifle (albeit with much lower dmg per shot). I've spent whole matches on Sinai Desert just taking out camping snipers who thought they were safe from return fire. I hate snipers.
