We sharing gynecologist stories? Great. Let me tell you about this bizarre bitch I encountered a few years ago.
For context, I've always had cripplingly bad periods. Like, bedridden-for-three-days-and-throwing-up-from-pain bad. I tried everything, from tylenol to birth control, and nothing seemed to help; I just had to weather the pain until the final two days, when it'd usually let up. Thankfully, I was also very irregular, so it'd only happen every two to six months. One day, though, I decided enough was enough and finally went to the doctor. I was shuffled around between different doctors and facilities for a while, as no one could figure out what was wrong, before I was finally referred to the subject of today's story. And... oh boy.
I get to the office that morning, as I'm the first or second appointment booked for the day. I sit in the waiting room for an hour. My turn finally comes around, and I go to the exam room. A nurse goes through the basic first-visit stuff, then leaves. I wait for another hour. Then another half-hour. Then the gynecologist pokes her head in the door, glances at me, and tells me I need a pap smear so I should undress and she'll come back. I go "hey, I'm on the tail end of my period, is it really okay for me to take my pants off when I'm still kinda actively bleeding?". She's already gone. Confused, I strip to my undies. I wait for another half-hour. The gynecologist and the nurse come back in, the nurse holding pap smear equipment. The gynecologist tells me that it's natural for periods to hurt, so if I'm having pain I should take birth control. She tells me she'll call in the prescription. I tell her I already tried three different kinds of birth control, and none of it helped. She tells me to try again, maybe it'll work this time. I ask if she got the records my previous doctor had transferred, including the details about the reason I came here today. She tells me she'll check. She leaves. The nurse tells me I can put my pants back on. She leaves with the same, still completely unused equipment she came with. I put my pants back on, even more confused now, and wait ten more minutes before bailing. I find the nurse in the hallway and ask if my appointment is over. She says yes. I leave that afternoon, somehow with more questions than I'd arrived with.
I ended up filing a report against the gynecologist because the entire appointment was a colossal waste of time and she was rude as hell. Didn't do shit, 'cause she's still practicing, but at least I tried SOMETHING. Also, I still had to pay for this wonderful experience, though luckily insurance caused it to only be about thirteen bucks. Nevertheless, that's thirteen bucks I'll never get back.
Oh, and as for the original issue I'd scheduled the appointment for? Still don't know what it was, but about a year ago the pain randomly stopped, and suddenly my period became semi-regular for the first time ever. I'm thankful, but... still confused.
