That's...an extremely optimistic prediction for the future. Far more likely that all the nations that have undergone a nuclear exchange will balkanize as opportunistic forces will see Judgement Day as a sign to make their move. And when that happens, your family, community, and country would be much better served by you being home rather than on the frontlines of that muddy slav shithole the oligarchs drafted you to be sent to.

I feel for your family friend. The last part of this struck me, you're actually giving me some agency in this matter. Look I admit, survival isn't the best, same with treatment when and if I get back. I still would want to do it anyway. I feel it's my duty to do so when the nation calls, because I don't trust other young zoomers to actually win it. I'm not a teenager, im in my 20s, I have a little bit more experience in this thing called life, I feel I'd be able to handle it better.

It IS a possibility, I do admit. But being on the front, it's a lot easier to blow up their landing ships and transport aircraft before they hit the US.

But am I really? I'm one small cog in the machine. I wouldn't be a decision maker, most likely a builder if anything, one that could be replaced if needed. I think you're overestimating one man's impact.

I guess it could be considered a logical fallacy; I just feel I'm being realistic. I'm either in a factory or shipyard, where at any moment, a TU-95 bear can launch some GLONASS guided cruise missiles and wipe me out, not even nuclear, just raw HE. OR I'm in the field, M16, grenades, all that, riding into battle on a Stryker that at best has a air filtration system and protection against 14.5mm HMG fire. I might just get blasted in the transport by a attack helicopter or anti tank missiles before i even deploy. Now im a bit of a optimist, but im gonna be realistic, even if i survive, my impact is small as a grunt

Don't worry about your impact as an individual so much or consequentialism, just do what is both morally correct and intelligent.

And I feel I am. Not  just the family honor, though that is a big part, but also my survival, and as such, the survival of my Father's lineage. If i stay in Utah, 9/ 10 i die in a nuclear blast considering where I am. Out in combat? I'm at least either in a armored box, with access to medivac helicopters and field medics, or a factory buried deep within the country, most likely with some ballistic missile defenses around it ( think THADD or Patriot). By doing that, I've kept the family line alive, at least potentially.

The only reason to join the military is to be allowed to legally kill people, and to have funny stories about retards to tell your friends and future grandkids.

Otherwise, you're just voluntarily becoming a minimum-wage indentured servant for your moral inferiors.

Why kill people who did nothing to you, while risking being killed for people with whom you share mutual hatred.

Save your welding skills for clients who deserve it.
