I can't speak for them, but I guess it's a sense of entitlement and not knowing the value of a dollar. For myself, I can say that housing looks at income as a prerequisite. I cannot imagine working in retail. It's a tinderbox of bad human behavior and mismanagement.

Yup. I'm basically counting the days till something catastrophic happens where I work. Everyone who knows and cares is attempting to fix or reverse it, but we're in the minority and it's just so massive and multifaceted that we're just stuck in triage mode constantly. It doesn't help that there's bullshit red tape everywhere that makes getting things done difficult to impossible, the majority of the team is half-assing it or is clueless as to fixing the infrastructure, and the limited money keeps getting diverted to useless bullshit and vanity projects.

Then there's the white collar NPCs who seem utterly clueless that their buildings and labs are broken down antiquated firetraps and constantly do shit that intensifies problems and bitch and moan about remediation and mitigation projects impacting their work. It's why I don't have time or energy to post much anymore.

Where I work doesn't matter much in the big scheme of things. It's why I don't believe there's some grand conspiracy to blow up food processing facilities or derail trains. I'm just mapping my own microcosm onto the macrocosm. The people who give a shit and are able to do things are just far outnumbered by the folks who don't and parasites are everywhere.

Honestly, I *wish* there was a conspiracy. That would be easier to fix than a rising tide of idiots and jack-offs lapping against the decaying infrastructure of just about everwhere.

I imagine the issues brewing with 9-5s come from three factors: increasing inflation, forced ESG, and (if you work in retail) constant shoplifting. People are going to feel considerable psychological damage from working a shit job where you watch helplessly while other people walk in and steal more from that job than you earn in a week from working there. How could that not hurt your resolve to keep going?

On paper, the solution would be to increase minimum wage for low-effort jobs. BUT, that could create other problems long term. If minimum wage increases, companies will find other means to cut costs. It'd be a bandage solution for our current inflation. Plus, adjusting your paycheck for inflation means that you're still "making" the same as before.

God, I can relate and yes... I'm terrified at what I see here lately in my field as well. Skill / talent doesn't get you ahead now it's having diversity points and ass kissing while just being competent enough that nobody else can do your job.

i think during that first half of 2020 the average american felt genuine fear for the first time in their lives. everyone processed it differently at the time, but no matter what political "side" of covid you were on it was made clear that both the government and the average citizen was completely incompetent.

Now I can make major complaints about how the War on Terror was waged, but at least the people in charge were feigning belief in the American people's resilience and ability to handle a disaster, with Covid one of our Major Parties spent Months directly telling the American people "You can not handle this, you are not smart enough to be able to manage the risks, Things will not be all right"

I think our response to Covid legitimately broke society in multiple ways.

Those of us who were wary about the system saw it's complete inability to handle the slightest road bumps completely laid bare. The Globalized Just in Time supply chain completely fell apart at every level with no ability for anyone to tweak it in a way to smooth things out. We saw that they would say the most ridiculous shit to justify letting their pet Ghetto Rats burn riot. Then we saw that "My Body my choice" vanished the moment that they could line Big Pharma's pockets by injecting people with a possibly dangerous vaccine.

Normies who are smart enough to know that the Narrative is absolute horseshit and didn't speak up because of peer pressure have become permanently cowed. They know they followed a three ring circus when they should have spoken up and now they are husks of what they should be. They can't be bothered to do anything for themselves because they already rolled over and gave up and they fucking know it.

Yeah same here. I cannot really hate on the zoomers seeing just how retardely rigged the game is against them. With the millenials it's still mostly their fault since they got a ok start and a lot of them brought it on themselves for being too naive and trusting when they should realized the warning signs and plenty of older folk were starting to tell them about it but zoomers? Some of these kids weren't even able to write by the time they got shafted out of any opportunity, some of the younger ones weren't even out of their diapers when the 2008 crisis rigged the economy into complete clown mode. And now we have the 1-2 punch of CRT and DEI focused education and the disgrace of online learning in the pandemic that stunted them for life.
