the problem is those stories are tied to multi-billion dollar IPs, which means while the stories should end, those IPs can not.
companies always like to re-use IPs because it's a know quantity, establishing a new IP is risky and expensive even if it works out. the main issue now is they can't even come up with good stories anymore, so those IPs have to carry more than usual. that's why you get pure desperation like indy5, which is tied so hard to harrison ford and the specific character, there is no sane way to continue it. something like star wars can work fine without luke skywalker, but not indiana jones without indy. the only way to re-use that IP is decades down the line once the current iteration has left public conscience.
