Lolcow Doug Jackson / SV Seeker - Boomer hubris personified, an incompetent lunatic's dreams slowly crumbling to dust because of his own poor decisions.

I think he has brain damage.

When your boat is a copy of a traditional design that you then have someone else plan for you, I don't see how you can with a straight face say you are the only person actually building boats.
Everyone else is just copying other designs.

It would be wanting to build a Model T out of wood, having someone else draw up plans for it, you building it to where it doesn't match the plans and then claiming you are the only original car designer in the world.

It isn't even like Dough is the first and only person to make a steel Chinese Junk.
It is hard to search for becase you get hits for the other kind of steel Chinese junk.
I found this interesting

No idea if this builder was inspired by Dough or just had the same idea.
I suspect someone else tried it before either of them.

Doug wants to pull the propshaft out whilst in the water, presumably to replace his worn cutlass bearing.

Doug built his pump to discharge on deck. Where his scuppers are too small.

Doug has known issues with his 120V Harbor Freight sump pumps.

Tomorrow or Saturday may be interesting.

Got to dump a bunch of water out via high pressure? No problem, aim it right at the side of your boat instead of up and over the side.

Sinking your own boat with a big pump is the manliest way to go, ya mamma’s boys. Haven’t you ever needed to get somewhere fast and had your legs sheared off by a water jet? All part of the rich tapestry of experiences you get when you sail with Ol’ Safety-Schmafety Doug.

>Building a 74ft steel origami junk rigged motorsailer in our front yard. ...and living the dream.

ETA on it sinking or totally failing in some other way?

I'm not surprised there's a thread on doug here. While I respect the effort and commitment to a DIY, from-scratch project, especially of this magnitude, he is also a titanic retard and fool with a habit of sperging out on commenters that criticize him in any way. He is very stubborn and does not want to change or improve in any way, to the detriment of his project.

It's nice to see it in the water at last though. I thought this was just going to be another dead-end project like the Marble Machine or countless others. So seeing it "done" is good.

BTW if anyone wants to see some proper boat-building, there is Tally Ho on YT.

I'm surprised none of you guys posted this video

Apparently he decided his shitty boat was just too safe and decided to venture into the exciting and dangerous world of homemade submarining. and basing his design on some old photographs. Doug will make Oceangate look well managed and safe compared to his "research expeditions". His first test dive was of course manned rather than through a wired connection outside the sub. The pressurization of the air in the sub combined with the fairly rapid decompression to exit will also be a wonderful recipe for the bends. Overall pretty cool. He already almost killed himself and the whole crew once but thankfully his shitty plywood construction was strong enough to sustain 8 yards depth without pressurization. Hopefully he makes another.

Ahoy mateys, come take a tour of the good ship SV Seeker. Definitely still afloat! Take that all you naysayers.

I know it's been said a million times, but what a Escher-esque disaster. A million ball valves and switches. Insane things like running a "fire hose pump" with plastic fittings and exhaust line inside the engine room.

And the way he is insulting anyone who would want to board his ship, he must have been taking points from Fatrick. He has a compulsion to call people pumpkin. "If you're soft, this isn't the boat for you". Yes Doug, that is what a researcher is looking for. A condescending captain on an uncomfortable deathtrap that only stays 20 miles from shore.

Don't call him captain.
Even with his diminished brain capacity he realizes that captains have certain legal responsibilities to passengers and crew.
Dough ain't having that.
You set foot on to his boat and it is survival of the fittest.
If there is an emergency it is every man for him self and you can bet your sweet ass Dough isn't going to waste time assisting others.
They knew the risk, if they sink or swim is of no consequence to Dough.

Thanks for the local archive!
I refuse to give that egomaniac clicks.

So it turns out he built a sail boat before realizing:
He gets sea sick
Has no Idea how to sail
Has no idea how to build a sail boat

Considering the constant problems with the transmission and propeller set up and the fact the boat is crooked and the port holes are nearly underwater it would appear he has no idea how to build a powered boat either.

You would think before dumping 10+ years of your life, all your money & all your relationships to build a sailboat you would go on a boat, see if you like it, learn how to sail and then copy the designs that sailboats have been using for 100s of years.

Not Dough.

We need a "You Will Never Be a Sailor" copy pasta for him.

Well, he actually has a boat. A terrible boat, but a boat nonetheless.

I am convinced I've been bamboozled now. I thought it was a from the ground up build for a research vessel. What it turned into is a sweltering barge that barely has any movement from the sails and a completely fucked drivetrain for it's engine. His shenanigans have turned him into my pet cow to laugh at. This guy is essentially in a metal box with no real insulation and no plan on how to fix it. That is unless you count leaving the fucking cursed thing for an airconditioned movie.

He is now running away from a hurricane. He just so happen to post no videos of him under sail. It is just him moving from safe harbor to safe harbor. So much for exploration.
