Anti-Flag have broken up. Last night, the the long-running political punk band announced on Patreon that they had disbanded. The breakup is sudden. The band was on tour in Europe and they were scheduled to play in Prague tomorrow night. The announcement includes very little context. Here it is, in full:
Anti-Flag has disbanded. the patreon has been switched into a mode where it will no longer charge the monthly fee.
i will begin to process refunds to all patrons in the coming weeks. once all refunds are processed the patreon page will also be removed.
The band’s website and their social-media pages have all been removed. This leaves a lot of questions unanswered. On Reddit, fans pointed out a podcast episode that went live yesterday. On the latest episode of Enough, a podcast dedicated to sexual assault in the music business, a woman tells a story about being raped by the singer in a political punk band. She never names the band or the singer, but it’s hard to hear that story without connecting dots. The story is extremely upsetting, both in its details and in the sense of betrayal that surrounds it. You can hear it here.

Justin Geever, who goes by the stage name Justin Sane, started the first version of Anti-Flag in Pittsburgh in 1988. The band released their demo in 1992 and their debut album Die For The Government in 1996. Over the decades, Anti-Flag became hugely popular, moving to Fat Wreck Chords and then to RCA in the mid-’00s. The band has remained active in recent years, and they released their most recent album Lies They Tell Our Children earlier this year. For their entire lifespan, Anti-Flag have pushed left-wing principles and political causes.

Against me! popped into my playlist last week, I'd never listened to them before but I knew them to be an SA goon favorite just like antiflag.

The song was groovy and had some energy to it. I looked at wikipedia later about the band I see the lead singer's name is "Laura" For a few seconds I'm thinking "damn I really had no clue it was a chick, she can fucking wail!" then I remember for a second the year we're living in, then I see a pic of a band and the guy who there is no denying is standing at the "lead singer" position.

It's that other type of punk-coinicidence. (or hell probably one in the same)

Laura, Lilith; the list of obvious troon names should be familiar to us all by now

I remember the music press making it seem like a huge deal when the against me! singer/leader trooned out. Probably was since it was before the wave of trooning out we see today. It was right at the beginning of this shit.

Tom Gabel was a great singer, and I used to be a big fan of theirs. I won't listen to his stuff anymore on account of the fagging out. He betrayed his talent by doing that.

I guess everything IS political. All homosexuals deserve death.

the switch from accoustic to electro-pop rock was the true death and a sign of the trooning out to come.

I hate articles that give no details and tell you to go listen to a podcast to get the details.

I listened to it and this is the meat of the story: The woman claims that the rapist invited her to a hotel after getting her drunk. Then as soon as they got into the hotel room, he yells "FOOTBALL TACKLE!" and tackles her to the bed, then puts one hand around her throat and proceeds to violently rape her. She claims she was crying and screaming and telling him to stop but he wouldn't. She claims she couldn't breathe at times and thought he was going to strangle her to death. She claims that she cannot stress enough how violent he was. Claims he raped her without a condom and that he passed out on top of her. Apparently he was very drunk too. She slithered out from under him at some point and went home.

I'm gonna be blunt here. It's really hard to take her story seriously when she admits to being a huge fan and going to meet up with him and getting drunk despite having a boyfriend. And she tries to justify this by claiming that her boyfriend knows how important this singer is to her, etc.

Whatever, I mean she could have planned to cheat on her boyfriend but obviously didn't plan on being raped. If her story is true then it sounds pretty bad. I'm wondering if there is some proof to this for the band to suddenly break up and cancel their tour, because from what I listened to (granted I did skim it) it doesn't sound like she has any proof of anything other than the text messages afterword, and nothing was mentioned about being raped, it was him asking her why she left the hotel room while he was passed out.

Imagine being a fairly famous musician (anti flag is definitely scene famous at least) and having some groupie up in your room, you're like "ok we fuck now" and she's like "OH no no way absolutely not wow its not like that"

Does that sound ridiculous to you? Because it is. I can just imagine looking at a bitch in that situation and being like... ok then what the fuck are you doing here? Get the fuck out. Anyways thats the thing about these famous man rape allegations, women are pretty stupid but you still have to assume that an adult woman is offering up her ass if shes coming back to your room/house or whatever after a night out. Like did you not even grope her a bit during the night to make sure? Normal people have to be very careful because as dumb as a scenario like that sounds, if the bitch doesnt freely open her legs then youre better off just going to sleep and wait for the next one, because any kind of pressure, intoxication, or hatefuck can get you banged up

Anti fag deserves it though, gotta be one of the whiniest shittiest fagbands thats been refusing to die. That shit was a bit much even when I was 12 years old, but dont get me wrong I used to have a few burned CDs to listen to. It aged terribly though, there are lots of bands I can still give a quick listen to but anti flag is definitely not one of those

I remember listening to these guys as an early teen - when counter culture grunge was all the rage. A few months back I decided to take a trip down memory lane to see what the old anti-media anti-war band was up to. What did I find? Orange man bad.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, a left-pilled band with sexual assault accusations? Am I in Hollywood? Color me surprised!
