Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Thread - Started With Mutant Mayhem Discussion

I finally caught an ad or two for this. I don't necessarily hate the designs or them sounding like their balls haven't dropped yet, but the 10fps doesn't look like a visual aesthetic, it looks like a budget thing they're trying to foist off as an aesthetic

Now, I'll say that it visually looks appealing, but just not my cup of tea. I understand they were trying to use the Spiderverse aesthetic and even be influenced by the likes of Tony Hawk Pro Skater among other things, but it still looks wonky. It may be more polished than the 2007 TMNT movie, but it doesn't say much.

I don't mind at all when cg tries to do something different but all I've seen of this particular one really just looks like they figured out they could use half the rendering budget, and call it a visual style

Yea. It seems like when Spiderverse came out, the animation industry wanted to copy the same aesthetic used in said movie. But the thing is this, this type of animation style wasn't new when Spiderverse came out, as Madagascar, Horton, Hotel Transylvania, Lego Movie, Peanuts, Angry Birds, Captain Underpants and Smurfs Lost Village also used the more cartoony aesthetic even before Spiderverse came out.

I was only introduced to TMNT only from the 2003 series when it aired on Fox back in the day. I had no clue that the 1987 series was popular until I saw the live-action movies when they aired on Starz back in the mid-2000s, and I was properly introduced to the original 1987 series by the time AVGN showcased the series.
I'm the opposite. Only seen 1987 (because I was a kid when that was airing) and the 90s movies. The first TMNT live action was honestly fucking amazing to see back in the day. I did also see some of the 90s Fox Kids live action show when they introduced the female turtle, but really nothing beyond that as I was growing up and wasn't interested in the newer re-interpretations. A lot of the art style of the early 2000s I just didn't like, besides that.

Now I've seen both Michael Bay movies as an adult and really have no desire to see anything else TMNT related unless someone does a straight 1:1 of the first issue.

Michael Bay didn't have anything to do with the two movies except just being the executive producer and being used as marketing. I feel as if I should give the 2010s duology movies a serious apology as they are not as bad as what's been happening with TMNT since the late-2010s

So regarding that “gay Splinter” thing…

So it’s just gonna be “What if Main characters in High School” at the end, like every single fanfic about any popular show ever then.

Why are Hollyweird writers so obsessed with high school and prom? Is it an American thing? I'm Australian, and was the weird art kid in high school, I didn't even got to my 'prom' (or graduation as we call it), and haven't thought about it or high school in years.

It’s probably where they peaked.

It's supposed to symbolize the last big event of your childhood before becoming an adult. At least it did when they weren't trying to infantilze us permanently.

they're butthurt about not going to prom
a lot of normal people did anything else on a Friday night because they were already past school sponsored events

It's a vicious cycle, it was a popular topic in old sitcoms to have a big prom to finish a season on a big event for the child actors.

Modern writers grew up on it and expected the prom to be the chance to fuck stacey/chad only to remain alone at the party, leading to some lingering mental fixation with prom, highschool and youth sexuality.
