Maybe it has something to do with all this clips posted in this thread which gives the impression that their primary focus at this exact moment is "DeSantis Bad, Trump Good". Indistinguishable from mainstream conservative ideologues like Ben Shapiro or Steven Crowder who are all trying to make a pitch for their preferred RNC candidate. Simultaneously they're using "Trump Winning, DeSantis losing" (check out this Rolling Stones article!) as a justification for their implicitly pro-vax/pro-mandate/pro-lockdown/anti-protest position. An argument that basically boils down to "if Trump wins that means it's a good thing we're pro-mandate/anti-protest".

They'd be better off acknowledging, "yeah, we live neet lifestyles so mandates weren't really a pressing concern for us, we empathize with everyone that has had to deal with it and it was obviously a huge and difficult issue for them at the time."

I think they're right that a lot of the narrative was retarded, right that the fight over masks was a lot of political theater, and ultimately correct that the issue of mandates faded away, but wrong to double down on "we were 100% right and you are losers for having been upset about it at the time."

They have to twist into pretzels not to dwell on the fact that they're not inherently opposed to vax mandates or lockdowns, etc, as they are willing to use the power of the state to enforce what they see as healthy or pro social norms.
