Internet Historian Appreciation Thread - The best thing to come out of Austrailia since Mad Max (The original, obviously)

Storymode time, this time with Forspoken.
I'd recommend archiving soon, keeping in mind the history of the videos' availability.
What a fucking glorious trainwreck, I haven't seen such perfectly condensed dogshit in years, even with the word of mouth, I'm amazed it was this bad. Hearing how exasperated and gloves off they were with criticizing the game was great, usually it feels like they're pulling punches to me to protect monetization. My favorite video on the channel so far.

My expectations were so low i didn't find this to be as much of a fuck up as everyone was saying, but i wouldn't say it is good either and I'm really glad people are showing more and more aversion to capeshit inspired stuff like this, also i just remembered this thing has a prequel DLC, i wonder if IH will cover that in the future?

Did they record the gameplay footage on the lowest settings? It seriously looks like a PS2 game.

Yeah, maybe. Fwiw the game does have unreasonably high system requirements, especially considering it's built on an engine designed for PS4 games:
  • MINIMUM:
    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows® 10 64-bit (After November 2019 Update) or Windows® 11 64-bit
    • Processor: AMD Ryzen™ 5 1600 (3.7GHz or better) / Intel® Core™ i7-3770 (3.7GHz or better)
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: AMD Radeon™ RX 5500 XT 8GB / NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 6 GB VRAM
    • DirectX: Version 12
    • Storage: 150 GB available space
    • Additional Notes: 720p 30fps
  • RECOMMENDED:
    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows® 10 64-bit (After November 2019 Update) or Windows® 11 64-bit
    • Processor: AMD Ryzen™5 3600 (3.7 GHz or better) / Intel® Core™ i7-8700K (3.7GHz or better)
    • Memory: 24 GB RAM
    • Graphics: AMD Radeon™ RX 6700 XT 12GB / NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 3070 8 GB VRAM
    • DirectX: Version 12
    • Storage: 150 GB available space
    • Additional Notes: 1440p 30fps, SSD 150GB
so even a PC with a $500 GPU's only guaranteed to hit 30fps at 1440p, and I've yet to see another game that asks for more than 16gb of RAM for its recommended requirements.

But if they're playing it on a PS5, lol.

Ok, it's not just me but this is the same person, right?

If so, good for him and it explains his unexplained absence.
Self-quoting, what I was implying was that a great aussie youtuber have gone from making videos with hundreds of views to making videos with hundreds of thousands of views on Storymode. I suspect he's the editor as well since he took time off from his own channel ~2 years ago to do video editing for someone else.

Continuing on with it, pretty sure they use Trails of Azure soundtrack for some reason since the music is really familiar. The writing is aweful and multiple plot points are immediately obvious. The character models continue to be nightmarishly bad, like it's no longer human, never mention women.

It looks like the deep ones from Shadow over Innsmouth.

The story tries to be somewhat balanced on calling out the heroine for being an asshole but it's still a person who doesn't deserve the powers she gets and constantly told how she's special.

See, I can’t tell if the game is saying she’s an asshole or if it’s saying she’s justified in acting that way.

Yeah, the editor definitely put in some Trails music in there.

On Forspoken, Christ almighty, I did not know about how hood rat's retarded mom literally got blacked in like a day. And of course to keep the socio economical circumstances, daddy went for a smoke and never came back (and this is fine). Loved how their slides showed what she would have seen from a real life new york and not whatever fagottry the game pushed in that segment.

The only bad thing of the video is that it's so long that it's hard to savor the moments. I also would have loved them to just unleash their general impressions of the whole thing, when Historian's companion just started going "I hate this game so much" I was hoping for a rant.

And the whole stupidity of it all, why keep the friendship bracelet on your person at all time? Why not DO something when the bracelet started talking to you about burning shit? Why did nobody bat an eye before that? Why did nobody in starter town seem to know fuck all about this? Unless the Tantas are immortal and shit shit happened centuries ago, one would expect it to be pretty bloody fresh in the population psyche. Why did nobody bother mentioning the bracelet as the demon instead of the hoodrat? Why did mommy blacked turn into a dragon while the other Tantas remained human? How did they make their little faggy tutorial dimension? And more important of all, why did she really really really have to steal that specific car? I thought the real world thing was a setup for something. And so on and so on

I knew the game was a train wreck, I just didn't know how much of it was. This episode was great and it has become one of my favorites.

One thing positive in my opinion was the dragon and the Tantas design. I just like them.
I'm a sucker for angelic-inspired characters, so I also think Cuff's fully powered form looks cool as hell. It's a shame that some legitimately good designs are stuck in this absolute shitpot of a game.

The way they both kept cracking up was hysterical, especially with the fat girl.
Oh god, I got into a laughing fit when they gave her the made up fat names. And the part where they said that downie face was basically a jump scare and they searched the actress and were like "oh god, I feel so sorry for her".

A very warranted roasting. There is nothing redeemable about her character.

Update, kept watching just to see where the story could go. It's so cringe, the message, the writing. It's like this scene but put into video game form.

They’ve mentioned in other episodes they get the footage from those non-commentary playthrough videos on YouTube.
I like IH and his gang but I have to ask... Why? If you're going to comedically review/recap/roast a game shouldn't you actually play it?

I swear, IH makes downright bizarre choices with his channels, like frequent video privating/removal.
