And if they don't have any family able or willing to be unpaid chauffeurs?
While I'm not a fan, hospice care and retirement communities exist for those who are infirm. You seriously think old people (read boomers) are the biggest cause of auto accidents?

Someone should go to hospice just because they can't drive anymore?

Btw hospice and retirement home are also pretty pricey, even for shitty ones.
Not everyone is you.
Yeah but many people don't have the time or money to be an unpaid chauffer. Especially young people who are spending every waking moment working to be able to afford basic necessities.

Many people don't live near their elderly relatives either.

You realize what forum we're on, right?

You have to have some kind of disability or mental fuckery to willingly post here. We are all special needs here.
I have had photosensitive epilepsy since 2005. I live in a city for that reason and I have a complicated relationship with cars and urbanism. I like good public transit and walkable cities but weird activist faggots who try to extend these policies outside of cities are annoying. It's also frustrating when people invoke disabilities like mine to make these arguments.

Edit: And I will say, I do wish Baltimore had as nice a subway system as DC does. And I wish the state would pony up more for that. Is that selfish on my part? I don't know. But still, I don't like going "lol but what about the cripples tho".

Null's rant about how America's Favorite African American is responsible for Cali not having HSR, was some real fucking wet streets cause rain bullshit.
For those who didn't catch the stream: (Timestamp 22:12)

Elon Musk is genuinely retarded and basically almost all his ideas (including Hyperloop) are completely retarded. However Cali's HSR had more problems than Musk. For example SNCF the French HSR company tried to get something built but they gave up for a less politically unstable region, North Africa of all places.

I do live in the metro area of a major city though. Cities are also becoming pretty unaffordable, so that's also a problem since crips aren't exactly made of money.

I bring up disabled people since I am one, and can't afford a car accordingly. It's a big problem whether people want to admit it or not, especially with aforementioned aging boomers who will inevitably start loosing the ability to drive living in completely car-dependent areas.

Not saying banning cars or anything, just trying to make them not the only option in a vast majority of the US.

You're telling me you couldn't scrape together 2000 and get a used 2001 Ford Focus that has pretty decent mileage? Really?

Nope, especially since you aren't getting a decent used car that cheap and even if you are, the cost of the car itself is far from the only expense of having one. When I last had a car insurance alone was over 100 bux a month, and that was minimum coverage. Then there's gas and any repairs that come up (more common for used cars), and you're looking at a couple hundred to a couple thousand a month just to own and maintain the damn thing. And if it dies, you're fucked.

I last had a car over a decade ago, I'm sure the cost of all that shit has only gone up exponentially since.

You have the internet at your fingertips, do research to find a really solid low maintenance model. Get a old Toyota or Honda. That shit is titanium, fuel efficient with the 4 cylinder, and parts are cheap as shit.

It's not gonna die if you do basic maintenance on time, especially if you learn to do things like change your oil, which is dirt cheap, same with insurance since this is a common solid car. And a little over 100 a month isn't bad. A person working at McDonald's or Walmart as a teenager could pay that. Do some internet research and find a good plan. Even on disability it shouldn't be out of reach

$100/mo is insanely high for minimum coverage on a beater, especially over a decade ago. She must have a lot of accidents on her record. I pay less than that for full coverage on a luxury car today, despite inflation.

It is though. Unless you want to pay for it. I can't afford a couple hundred-thousand bucks every single month.

Not all of us can afford a car, especially with the cost of living continuing to rise exponentially. The idea of everyone being required to be paypigs for car/oil/insurance/etc companies is a bit fucked as well. Thems the breaks.

Informative. Still, my point stands. I don't have much, but I could sure as fuck pay that. And as for repairs, that's what savings are for and keeping at least 2000 in your savings at a time. If she doesn't have that at her age, it's more than just accidents on her record, but poor financial planning

It's called being a mentally ill autist with limited work abilities.

At this point if I wanted to drive again I'd also have to take driving lessons, which is more shit I can't afford. I only ever learned to drive in the first place because friends taught me in my early 20s, which is another issue. Not everyone is even able to learn to drive in the first place, since not everyone has parents able or willing to teach them and relying on friends can be a crapshoot. Strict car dependence comes with a lot of legit issues, whether you want to accept it or not.
