I just wanted to interject and say that in India, arranged marriages are organized by the parents.

Part of the motivation will be financial but (Vedic) astrology is a big part of their culture, and the parents will try to work out whether it is going to be a good pairing before the marriage is arranged.

There are many factors that they check and consider but as an example; a woman with her Moon in a certain Lunar Mansion (27 divisions of the zodiac) is more likely to become a widow if she marries before the age of 25 (she is referred to as Manglik).

Obviously a mother will not want one of those marrying her son.

Thank you for the information but there is also quite similarities with a few obvious differences due to cultures.
Western societies did follow the same or kind of the same lifestyle but with major differences.
