It's weirdly cute how a man who puts man-made horrors beyond human comprehension on paper, in the name of art, is actually extremely wholesome in real life. Junji Ito is like the antithesis to Hayao Miyazaki.

I didn't even know that Dark Horse was still publishing English-translated manga, to be honest.

I think the last time I bought a volume of manga published by Dark Horse was Ah! My Goddess! sometime around volume 20 or so (and that was co-published by Studio Proteus).

My copy of the Planetes omnibus is published by Dark Horse. I wonder if these numnuts will ever learn that manga sells because many of them tell a good story that isn't some variation of the same old Marvel or DC characters doing different things.

I'm pretty sure dark house is just mainly milking their hard cover editions, i.e. $50 bucks for omnibuses of Berserk, Trigun, Hellsing, and I think Blade of the Immortally. Aside from that I think the only notable new series they have are Mob, Drifters (lol), and Eizouken.

Still probably doing better then their comic cause lets be honest Hellboy was the only thing that seemed to sell and I haven't seen anyone talk about it in a long time, not even to shit on it like people do with DC or Marvel characters (is it even still ongoing? I know it "ended" years ago but I swear they kept bringing him back for other spinoffs)

Edit: lol I just found this and am a bit surprised.
Manga makes up 1% of Dark Horse's printing output but is responsible for 66% of it's sales.

They need to realize that keeping what made it interesting for Japanese readers by not fucking up the translation is key.

I still have some of those and the You're Under Arrest trades. I really wish they'd re-release 3x3 Eyes, my old copy with the Rob Zombie introduction is in poor shape:

so with all the CGI talk, what's the opinion regarding the bandori anime?
Haven't seen the anime yet, unfortunately. They also have a movie out as well, right?
All I know is that the voice actress of Yukina is cute.

3 seasons, a few spin-offs, several movies with the plot of the game events.
first season is basically slice of life in traditional 2d establishing the "main" band. ends with a treat for anyone who misses (some) μ's from love live:

season 2+ then switched to CGI and introduces the other bands.
felt a bit weird, especially if you watch it back to back, but over time came to appreciate it because they put effort into the CGI and it keeps improving. for example lot of cheap CGI just renders in reduced framerate, which looks weird and choppy (like the intro of girls und and panzer with the pan shot once in the tank). 2d animation is usually based on the keyframes to make the animation fit (sometimes they get away with having the CGI animated in a closup and higher framerate so it's less obvious).
there's also no noticeable "switch" like lot of idol anime or anything with dancing, since those are bitch to animate even with CGI (unless you're kyoani just dropping a routine mid-season in traditional 2d because fuck you why not).
animating all the band performances by hand would be expensive as fuck and take a lot of of time, especially with all the effects and stuff like tracking shots.

I wonder if they really saved money by going with CGI or even paid more, never found a source for the cost of each episode, might be behind the moonrune-barrier somewhere. also curious how well they translated the actual playing of the instruments since mocap would be possible, but I'm not a musician.

all in all not a mindblowing series, but not the worst distraction to watch on the side if you come from the game or from the music. still interesting from a technical standpoint tho

All I know is that the voice actress of Yukina is cute.
>roselia

Anyone else reading Oshi No Ko?
I kind of got bored with the anime and didn't watch the last two episodes of the season.
Does the manga get better?

Also wanted to add that while I've enjoyed Hell's Paradise, the Tensen really ruin it for me. I think it was a great battle royale that turned into basic shonen shit by of course introducing the obligatory Big Bad with his royal crown that everyone now has to team up with. Meh.

The second to last episode is a bit slower, but the last episode is a real banger for the first half, setup for the second. Without going into too deep of spoilers:

1. Tokyo Blade Arc (next arc) - Decent Characterization throughout, makes me hate Akane but that's due to personal IRL reasons and probably not the general user experience
2. Music Video Arc - Expands on the Supernatural, Aqua goes on the back burner at the end, Ruby becomes the main character.
3. Broadcast TV Arc? - Its Ruby's world and we're all just living in it. Its pretty good, starts to tie up a lot of lose threads that are pretty dope
4. Movie Arc - Where we at now. Shit getting real. Manga seems like it might be coming to an end soon. Oh and Aqua's the main character again.

Dude I just... I can't really get into it. It just doesn't feel like it has a personality of it's own. I liked the first episode a lot but it didn't do much for me overall.

i really wanted to see the idol group ruby was a part of progress, but they mostly get forgotten in favor of ruby specifically.
that and i forgot wut aqua's plan is but im pretty sure he's found the killer, it's just that he has a complicated plan of doing it to get around something that i forgot.

Also just wanted to put this here. Rereading over the thread and the discussion/debate about FMA 2003 and Brotherhood and which is better. Here's my overall takes.
2003 Pros:
Getting to know the characters
The pacing feels better in the beginning (Brotherhood really rushes through shit, especially the Nina stuff)
I felt Shou Tucker was a lot better in his cold apathy rather than making him some moustache twirling villain of the week
Roy and Edward's relationship feels a lot better, more like a father/son type bond. He also comes across as a lot more calculating in a non autistic way, unlike Brotherhood
Hughes is an infinitely better character (probably because he gets more than 15 minutes of screen time) and his death hits a little harder
Overall better lighting/mood (Brotherhood is way too bright all the time)
Re:write is one of the best anime OPs of all time
I felt like the end made a little more sense considering the idea of "equivalent exchange" and it was more emotional to me
Solf J. Kimblee is more of just an asshole and I like that the show doesn't romanticize him at all
I found the comedy relief a lot better
I like that some of the side characters got more moments to shine (like the one girl embracing Ed in the factory)
I like that Scar is depicted more as an actual irredeemable terrorist. Yeah he has his reasons but the show never lets him off the hook.

Cons:
When it does try to adapt the manga in the second half, it feels forced and fails (like Bradley killing the girl hiding in Al)
Whatever that shit was with the dude becoming a cyborg was retarded
The worst opening was the one they used for like 20 episodes
There's one of the shittiest filler episodes that comes in right before the ending for no reason

Brotherhood Pros:
Better animation for the fight scenes
Bradley is fucking amazing
The openings and endings I generally like a little more
Roy and the gang actually are given shit to do in the last act
Hoenheim being integral to the story helped a lot
The character's all getting more time to interact was nice
The titlecards were always a blast to see
The scene of Ed removing the pole impaling him is perfect

Cons:
Comedy relief is FUCKING ASS. Seriously, if Brotherhood didn't have such absolute shite comedy intermingling in moments it absolutely SHOULD NOT BE, it would be fine
I found most of the Homunculus boring from a character standpoint, I also thought the way of killing them being "just kill them enough times" was retarded
Too many fucking furries and chinks I don't give a fuck about being introduced
Lots of asspulls in the last ten episodes. Bradley being defeated by a literal deus ex machina, Ed turning Pride into a fucking fetus, Father losing to a blond kid with a malnourished arm and other daft shit
Greedling is a forced meme and isn't a deep character. Sneed, faggot.
Father was a let down and I didn't really feel anything from the final fight
The philosopher's stone becomes a macguffin to help literally everyone out instead of something known to create nothing but misery for the people who use it

Also wanted to add that while I've enjoyed Hell's Paradise, the Tensen really ruin it for me. I think it was a great battle royale that turned into basic shonen shit by of course introducing the obligatory Big Bad with his royal crown that everyone now has to team up with. Meh.
They kinda went from generic battle royale to generic shonen, including the "you need to learn a super secret ability to have a fighting chance that takes decades to master if you are willing to alter your body to become adapt in it, oh wait, all the main characters instantly know how to use it more than the people literally spending their lives exclusively learning it". It's the same issue I have with Nen in HxH, it's so broken it makes zero chance how it's a secret.

I did like the twist in the final episode, though it's the case that you simply take a contrived plot element at face value because it works for drama.

Holy shit that must be depressing "we produce absolute crap and the only reason we haven't gone down under is by publishing weebshit". What is even that 99% that dark horse publishes? I imagine Vampirella is HARAM now as well as Lady Death and do they even still have the Robocop, Predator and Alien licenses?
They basically follow the same trajectory as USA car sellers
