Yeah, the dread of the "empty nest" does this to a lot of parents. High school best friend was like this. Parents kept her strongly medicated, whenever she had a problem with the few jobs she tried to pick up, they encouraged her to just quit and stay home. This was a bright person and now she's so fucked up from the series of meds she's been on since forever that she'll never hold a job, never have a relationship, never travel, never do any of the things someone her intelligence and age could be expected to reasonably do. Other friends who had similar issues, but weren't immediately medicated to the gills and kept dependent on mom and dad, somehow magically were able to get jobs and have maybe some kind of normal medication regimen that didn't change much over time.
Nora reminds me of that friend. I don't check her thread as much as I would otherwise because that shit just hits a little close to home. I'd give anything to make it so that friend was the person I figured she'd end up when we were in school. I wonder if Nora has friends from back in her "dorky girl on a scooter" phase who feel the same way about her.

Seems the sexual predator is unseenperdify aka Rob and there's a whole host of ratkings going after him. Funny enough after he deactivated his account, someone suggested they should call for a welfare check. When I suggested that for Nora, she reeeeee'd that I was trying to SWAT her.

While the Rat King, and Zoe Quinn are massive trainwrecks that are wonders to behold, I have some sympathy for them in this instance. Their ranks were infiltrated by a serial predator who used his mental illness as a shield against criticism and as a tool for manipulation. They trusted this person, they thought he was one of them. To find out that you let the very thing you hate into your midst is a terrible psychological blow.

While bored and waiting for an appointment a few months ago I asked my local clinics nurses what they thought of the whole tumblr self-diagnosing/gendertrenders vs terfs/made up genders stuff and none of them had heard anything about any of it, which surprised me because I figured they'd have at least overheard a stray convo about it here or there, but nope.
It must really steam Nora's ass that medical science is on the Kiwis side.

Isn't that all of them, though? I mean, they may not all be sexual predators, but they're all solipsistic manipulators using the claim of mental illness to excuse bad behavior and wangle what they want out of other people. I don't see a lot of genuine empathy among them. They're all too needy and damaged themselves.

The thing is, if they truly wanted to, many of them could choose a new path. It might take meds and therapy, but it's doable. I think Nora is too far gone to be salvageable, but others could use her as a cautionary tale and adjust course before it's too late.

Honestly? I really have zero sympathy here.
I'm not sure I even believe this. The ratking have, time and time again, proven themselves to be unreliable narrators. They make stories based on what they feel, not what happened. This person could be anything from a serial rapist to just a bit of an asshole, and we'd never be able to tell the difference.
It's the downside of accusing everyone you dislike of horrible things. Eventually, someone legit does something horrible, and nobody believes you.
Maybe this guy hurt people. Maybe he just said the wrong thing. Guess we'll never know, because lord knows they can't be trusted to tell us.
