Shitty reviews so far; I wasn't going to see it, but now I want to see it so I know how bad it is.

Jared Leto is also apparently grievously offended that they cut out a lot of scenes involving the Joker, leaving him with only 8 minutes of screen time.

Thoughts?

Sucide Squad is the biggest trainwreck I've ever watched in theaters, and I've seen Batman vs Superman.

I was slightly buzzed and wasn't even slightly entertained. RLM hit the nail on the head that it's very badly edited, as bad as Fantastic Four was, and the pop songs annoyed me after awhile.

Just give up already DC. At least I saw this movie for free, the only good thing I got out of this.

I watched it last night. I didn't think it was that bad. I do agree that it had issues. Like how weak Joker was as a character. Everything about him felt really half assed. I agree, too, that the relationship between the Joker and Harley shouldn't been so "loving", and I'm disappointed that they cut out the Joker's abuses towards Harley. I'm guessing the director didn't want his waifu to get hurt. The big bad also felt flat. The government agent lady felt like a better villain than the evil Aztec goddess.
The strong points made it up for me though. Will Smith played the part wonderfully, at least in my opinion. Harley Quinn was also more entertaining than what I had expected, especially compared to Joker. As a comic relief she was really good. Diablo was pretty neat, too. Like I said, the lady who recruited the Suicide Squad was a good villain. I liked the way she really gave no fucks and saw everyone as a tool to be used. And I think the movie's strongest points were the interactions and moments between the characters rather than the plot as a whole. Especially considering how weak it was plotwise.

Saw it yesterday. I didn't think it was that bad honestly. It was a typical summer popcorn flick you can just turn your brain off and enjoy. Yeah, the plot was messy as was the editing (Katana's backstory and her character as a whole felt out of place like it was edited in honestly). The villain was also cliche and boring as fuck. But people acting as if this is the worst thing since The Room need to stop being over dramatic. The problems in Suicide Squad were problems in many, many super hero movies. I was, however, no masterpiece but better than the last two DCU movies.

The government lady was more scary than the actual villain, like many have said. I liked Harley Quinn, Deathshot (Will Smith's character), and the other characters, while bland, weren't bad.

And this may just be something to disregard coming from someone who isn't a big Batman fan anyway, but Jared Leto's Joker wasn't that bad

I heard Jared Leto was the best thing about this movie, c/d?
no. he wasn't cringy like most people thought he would be and his scenes were enjoyable (whether that be because of Harley or his acting ability I'd have to see it again to tell), but the best part of the movie? No way. Maybe if he was in more than like 8 minutes of it...

I personally thought Harley and Deathshot were the best parts.

Caught it yesterday, and in all fairness, Suicide Squad won't be the first movie up against the wall when the Hollywood Revolution comes. It's just a garish and flashy movie (in a good way, granted) that just waits and waits to metastize into a good one.

Fully agree. Robbie and Davis walk off with this movie.

I was really hoping it'd be more of a trainwreck than it actually was, though it certainly wasn't a good movie. The story and was awful, the editing and humour were obnoxious, and the colour correction was so dark that it was nearly impossible to see anything at times. Also, whoever's idea it was to turn Joker into a Hot Topic-gangster should never be allowed work in the industry again.

The only reason I saw this movie was because I was hanging out with some friends at the mall while they were high as fuck. One of them wanted to see what was playing in theaters at the time, and on a whim we all decided, "fuck it, let's go watch a shitty movie." Not sure why we decided on this one, since we've been giving Ghostbusters 2016 shit for weeks now.

Just got back from it...meh.

I'll run through some stuff I did/didn't like.

Pros:
  • I enjoyed Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and I found the film's interpretation of her character to be entertaining.
  • Jared Leto is no Heath Ledger, but I could believe him as the Joker. I can definitely understand how some people might find him grating, though. I also enjoyed Will Smith as Deadshot.
  • It actually felt like it was trying to be an entertaining film, which is more than I could say for Batman vs Superman ("DARKNESS, NO PARENTS").
Cons:
  • The film's tone is wildly inconsistent. It will go from some violent romp with licensed music in the background, to some sob-story related to the character's past.
  • The pacing is way off. The squad don't even assemble until something like 45 minutes into the film, and some scenes don't flow into each other very well.
  • Some members of the Squad were given hardly any backstory at all. I had completely forgotten about Slipknot until I was reminded of him after the film had ended.
  • Those that DID get somewhat fleshed out needed more information, I felt. Deadshot's in particular felt like it was tacked on as a footnote.
  • Bit of a nitpick, but there was some pretty bizarre dialogue ("Normal is a setting on the tumble dryer").
I think this might have worked better if it were split into two films: one that established the characters and their backstories, and another where all the violent shit happens. Harley's relationship with Joker is something I would like to see more about.

Overall, I guess you could check it out if you're curious, but I can't see myself watching this more than once. Hardly a terrible film, in my opinion, but it definitely suffered from something of an identity crisis.

The tone thing could be explained by, due to the success of Deadpool and how that one trailer that everyone really liked(the one with jokes) literally used all the jokes in the movie, they recalled everyone to do reshoots of the movie to incoperate more comedy into the film.

Given your idea about splitting Suicide Squad into two films, I think the idea would have worked better if most of the cast had showed up first in other films with a build up to them being recruited into the squad, short of like an Evil Avengers.

It was OKAY. Not great due to choppiness and inconsistencies, but it had enough moments that it wasn't a total waste of a balcony ticket. Alcohol made the Leto parts tolerable.
-It was weird they cut waaaay down on the Joker's abusiveness, though. That was like half of his characterization for those of us that grew up on other Jokers. (The other half being the sheer crazy and Mark Hamil/Jack Nicholson laughs.) Maybe it was supposed to be him through Harley's eyes? Beyond bad editing, I mean. IDEK, man.

Will Smith being Will Smith was actually one of the better things about the film. I mean he plays the same character practically but it was familiar and something reliable in a film that had awkward transitions and waaay too much build-up.

Imagine you're Jared Leto and you acted like a total fucking idiot with a bunch of whacked method acting shit trying to outdo Heath Ledger because you don't realize you're a supporting actor and it all ends up on the cutting room floor.

He must be pissed.
