Suicide Squad - Shit reviews, Jared Leto is mad because he only got 8 minutes of screen time

Yeah I'm calling bullshit on that "director's vision" garbage. It's the other way around. The studio wants money so they start making DC movies built around the two things die-hard DC fanboys want most: direction that boils down to "not Marvel" and having as many characters possible crammed into every single movie.

And DC fanboys will defend this shit to the death because again, it's 1) not Marvel, and 2)they're intent on cramming every single character they can into these movies.
Thing is, as Red Letter Media points out, why then go to such lengths to hire these off-beat writer/directors like Ayer and Jenkins when they could just as easily go for some dime-a-dozen ultra-compliant hack?

My theory is these guys bring the exact kind of image the DC movie execs want for their franchise. They very transparently market their movies as the edgy "grown-up" alternative to the other blockbuster superhero universe. Why else would they hire a guy who actually said "Fuck Marvel" in an interview at their premier?

On that note, DC fan boys deny that DC/WB are copying Marvel when well. It's been brought up that they started Sucide Squad after Guardians of the Galaxy did so well. And the reshoots to bring more souless humor inot the movie was because Deadpool was so successful. RLM touch on this in their reveiw too.

Makes you wonder if they'll continue copying Marvel because it's certainly not working out like they hoped. People are going to eventually get tired of their movies, they already are after Sucide Squad. People were calling it the saving grace for DC's universe and instead they got a pile of steaming shit.

It's really funny Ayer said fuck Marvel after all this mess with their movies.

People have been tired of their movies since Man of Steel. DC apparently decided from the start Chris Nolan's approach of making superheroes grounded, human, likable, and interested in saving people wouldn't fly for their new slew of mature movies for a grown up, no-nonsense audience.

If Marvel can do cheesy yet fun superhero films then so can DC. That's what people want to see in superheroes anyway. Gritty realistic superheroes don't work that well, I even found Nolan's films a bit too much considering Batman is a superhero technically.

Part of the problem is that they put way too much money in the budget for their pilot to the DCEU. The first Iron Man movie set the bar pretty high, and cost nearly half what Man of Steel did while making 4 times its budget back, while Superman barely brought in 3 times its own budget.

People always call Marvel movies "cheesy fun" but there's not really anything cheesy about them. They're usually a little more lighthearted and characters like to razz each other but they're never goofy. The only ones kind of like that were Deadpool and Guardians. Frankly, Man of Steel was far cheesier than any Marvel movie I've seen because of the dumb plot and even dumber action. Seriously, the fight scenes made me feel like I was watching Advent Children but even more retarded.

I liked Nolan's take on Batman well enough because Batman as a character lends himself well to darker and more cerebral narratives. Not that other characters don't; Tony Stark is just as damaged as Bruce Wayne. But "dark" is so synonymous with Batman's personality it's literally one of his epithets. And even Nolan's movies knew when to lighten up a bit. They weren't written by someone who thinks shooting a beloved character in the head is "fun".

Exactly. People (comicbook nerds) bitched about Iron Man 3 because they didn't make the Mandarin a racial characature or "being in-line with the character". These same people seriously thought Man of Steel had a deeper meaning or tone...
The movie where Superman activly destroys Metropolis, seemed to revel in violence, and didn't seem like he cared about saving people. I think the executives never worked with film, or creative stories at all, because who are we supposed to relate to in the DC movies? Zack Snyder is an idiot, but the first 300 was actually not bad, but when people who don't know how to write get involved, you get this shit from too much meddling, and Suckerpunch with too little.

300 was "good" because it was always about violent spergs murdering each other.

That's not really what I imagine when I think of fucking Superman. But it's sure as shit what I got.

A few Marvel movies aren't cheesy yeah, you really can't do something like Iron Man cheesy he's a depressing character. I'm mainly talking about Guardians, Deadpool, and Spiderman. The new Spiderman movie looks like it will be really fun, thank god Marvel is in charge.

Anyway, Marvel just knows a lot of superhero movies should have humor and fun in them, unlike DC. By that I mean intentional humor, Man of Steel was just laughably bad and Suicide Squads humor was extremely forced.

I've never really liked Batman, even then I have to admit Nolans Batman movies were the last major DC movies that were decent despite a few problems I had with The Dark Knight Rises.

They just need a complete overhaul and kick that hack fraud Snyder off of making any more superhero movies.

What's funny is that for years, Marvel was regarded as the "realistic" company since their stories tended to be more serious in tone along with the entire X-Men line dealing with issues like racism and discrimination; while DC was seen as the more idealistic and hopeful company (not that dark, fucked up shit didn't happen in DC). Now you have the Marvel Cinematic Universe which is, overall I think, rather hopeful and even inspirational; which is in contrast to the DC films which feel like they were written by the edgy "xtrme" writers of 90s Marvel.

I hope these assholes plan on scaling back the budget for Aquaman and Cyborg's stand alone movies. Because I doubt anyone is an unironic fan of Aquaman, and who the fuck cares about Cyborg.

Who better contrasts with Marvel's heroic themes than a man who thinks we're all a bunch of giant pussies for thinking superheroes are supposed to save people?

As a "DC fanboy" myself, are you sure those guys are DC fans instead of just some weird contrarians? The movies seem more "Made for /tv/" then they are at fans of the characters from the comics. I suppose that's splitting hairs and doesn't really matter but I've noticed DC fans don't have the same kind of overlap that Marvel has right now.

Aquaman's alright if you're not going for the tryhard 90s version. They probably are going to do that anyways looking at the character's movie design. I agree with you on Cyborg, they've even talked about how he's just supposed to be a token here too. I have no idea why they'd bring that up but it's Warner...

Most of the people I know defending these movies are die hard DC fans who think the people who didn't like BvS are immature Marvel shills.

This is a universe where Batman kills dozens of criminals, and Superman is less protector and more of a compact Godzillia. If they really wanted to do their own movie that was like Guardians, either remake the Green Lantern (and make it well enough that people would want to see a Lantern Corp. film) or make a Martian Manhunter movie. Replace Cyborg with the Manhunter, because I know the DC approved script is going to be a gritty Iron Man...so terrible

There's rumors that the eventual Green Lantern film is going to be some buddy cop flick about them. Just going off what I've seen in MoS and BvS, it looks like the Superman characters are the only ones who are too fucked to salvage. It reminds me of the poor handling of Thor in the MCU that doomed one of my favorites from the comics.

I'm just hoping that Wonder Woman and beyond are going to change things for the better after all changes behind the scenes on who exactly runs the show. If Wonder Woman fails then even the tiny bit of hope I have is lost.

Thor is going to be fine, Disney needs it to be if Phase 3 and on are to even exist. WW I have less faith in because I suspect the executives at WB have their office walls coated in lead paint. I swear to Christ is they try the whole Fieg Gambit of sexiam again, I'll bash my head against the wall.

I'd only agree if we're talking fine in the sense of the movie being successful or the possibility of Ragnarok being an okay film. Other then that Thor has been botched in terms of the character and his mythos in previous MCU films. They turned him into a RomCom character and dropped the magical half of Asgard in favor of exclusively sci-fi and Asgard becoming a viking themed Krypton. On the other hand, I wonder if the changes were them being afraid of confusing people with how Asgard is literally a "living story" and the product of human thoughts. They're more like the Eternals then the Asgardians.
