To do a traditional magazine/newspaper subscription you would have keep a big list of all your readers real names and addresses. A list that could be subpoenaed and then made public/leaked.

I think it would be safer to come up with a way to do an on demand system where the reader orders his copy. Then it gets printed and shipped. After that there is no reason to keep the readers info so it gets wiped.

Just be aware that formatting will be hell and pictures cost out the ass. So just copying forum posts over 1 to 1 isn't going to work, but I assume you have thought of that.

I don't know how you'd format it nor what content you'd include, but if you kind of structured it as like an extension of the site with sections featuring editorialized highlights from each forum then there could be some overlap with politics.

Not that that'd bad anyway if there was a political element.

Have you thought about doing it zine style instead of like a proper newspaper, if only because they're much cheaper to make? A monthly kiwi-zine that covers the funniest lolcow events of the month would be something I'd subscribe to. You could even format it like you do the mati streams with a news of the month section at the beginning, lolcows in the middle and random stuff at the end.
I'm pretty sure you can also use USPS media mail shipping for it, but you can't have ads in it if you do use media mail.

I have a very autistic interest in the German word vogelfrei; it literally means "free as a bird" but it developed a negative double entendre for outlaw. A vogelfrei could be legally killed because he was stripped off all human rights. In both definitions, it fits this site very well.

So something like "North Dakota Vogelfrei" "Monthly Vogelfrei", and especially the "Kiwi Vogelfrei" (bird meme) would be cute, basically only I would understand the joke and nobody could spell it.

It sounds pretty cool to me. People post on the site every day so it might be neat to have people write articles on this or that. Obviously the lolcow news but I think there could be a bunch of different content. Comics, short stories, knowledge about some obscure topic forum members would find interesting. Kind of like old science fiction or comedy magazines.

I'm fond of Kiwi Vogelfrei.
