Russian Special Military Operation in the Ukraine - Mark IV: The Partitioning of Discussion

The problem with that line of thinking is that Russia benefits by dragging things out like this. Right now war fatigue is settling in on the public consciousness and so NATO support is fading. Ukraine is literally on miliary welfare and needs to whore itself out to continued funding. The US is embarrassing itself, and it's actions have caused other countries to distance themselves from America and begin to support Russia more. De-dollarization is progressing with BRICS picking up steam and countries changing to trading in local currencies.
More importantly, the war is effectively on the backburner. Ukraine is literally just throwing itself on the landmines so all Russia has to do is keep the war front stationed with an eye out for something unexpected happening. Russia can focus it's attention on restabilizing their economy and rebuilding trade relationships. They're getting embargoed for finished products but still have raw resources and trade with China, so they can build up their own manufacturing capabilities - ensuring that Russian citizens have work and income. Yes the ware is on Russia's border, but they can now treat it like America's forever war in Afghanistan as most citizens can largely forget it's happening but benefit from the boost to the economy it provides.

Russia does not benefit by the war dragging on, because every shell that gets used is one less shell Russia has in their stockpiles. Every tank that gets made is materials not going elsewhere in Russia's economy. Every soldier that gets killed is one less worker that Russia has (and Russia has terrible demographics). Hell, every soldier in the field is someone not doing something more productive for the economy. Needlessly dragging out wars has universally been considered a bad thing, hell, Sun Tzu even said as much about 2,500 years ago.

Meanwhile, NATO is getting valuable combat experience for a next-gen war, and the depletion of NATO stocks is both noticed and being addressed. Sure, not as quickly or effectively as some would like it, but they are increasing manufacturing and its making big bucks for the military-industrial complex.

This is pure cope for the fact that Russia can hardly take territory at this point because the leaders know that Ukropski defensive lines will maul them just as bad as their own are doing now.
Both arguments have some merit. I agree that a long war doesn't benefit Russia and that it's unwilling to advance due to being casualty adverse, but NATO doesn't benefit either because graft is the main priority of the MIC, not quantity or solving actual problems. The US still has a peacetime attitude and has failed to rally its population into serving actual military affairs, which is creating knock-on effects and keeping D.C.--who are the only people that actually want a war--from escalating like they would like. Even Trump's bluster probably wouldn't work at this point and Putin might fire off a MOAB in response.

China is the only actual winner in this case, but since the question is who is losing more, it's NATO. Its doctrine looks like expensive shit, its logistics is unfixable, its tactics is suicidal, and its infantry isn't even really NATO people, but pathetic, desperate draftees. Russian problems are more like having to deal with Chinese bullshit, but they fixed enough of their military problems to not be retarded.

Yesterday Twitter's #trending was #RussiaIsCollapsing. I looked out of the window to double-check, but it was still there. It looks like they were celebrating hitting a tanker under a Kerch bridge or something.

Have you noticed that Ukraine has changed its tactics and is now purusing a terrorist approach to warfare much in the same way Russia was doing to it earlier this year? I am not using this word in the grandstanding-moral sort of way but in a purely descriptive sense, attacks that have no effect on the acutal military capability of either side but are meant to sow panic and intimidate the enemy into accepting its terms/doing something out of desperation.

Flying UAVs into Moscow City (I'll give that one a miss, blowing up the penthouse apartments of cryptoinvestors fills rank and file Russians with malicious glee because class hatred), shooting at holiday goers in Crimea, bullying old women into setting fire to recruitment points in Nowhere, SIberia and torpedoing tankers under Kerch bridge will not win the war for Ukraine. So why are they doing this?

Because Zelensky is not interested in wrapping things up, it will be the end for him and he needs the war to continue. Russia is stubbornly sitting in the trenches using its historic defense bonus and the Counteroffynsyv failed to put a dent in it, let alone dislodge even a section it. All it can do is throw more men and machines into the meatgrinder. It needs to reverse the trend.

I get that it would be awfully nice for Russia to shock and awe its way all the way to La Manche Kiev and end this mess in a day, but Putin's plan is to play safe, to sit on the defensive and enter negotiations to fix territorial acquisitions (DLNR and a land corridor to Crimea), as well as Ukraine's neutral status. This would well allow the Kremlin to declare victory in the protracted war.

Like most times, the attacker in the current situation is at a disadvantage, so Ukraine is playing to its strengths (which is a robust media apparatus) to switch the roles and incite Russia to go on the offensive before Zelensky fatigue in the West builds up to 100%. Even if it takes years.

Yeah seriously, a long war benefits nobody, but there's one blindingly obvious loser and it's EU. Which isn't surprising to anyone who has been paying attention to it because it's been losing for the last 30 years, and the losses have always been self-inflicted. Currently, it's been a year and a half since the invasion, and EU countries continue to be completely incapable of controlling their borders... or to manufacture any military equipment. Due to the batshit insane bureaucracy that reigns over the continent, it's going to take a decade to start producing uniforms. We might get some artillery ammunition by 2100.

I don’t agree that the Donbass and a Crimean land corridor is enough, because what’s left of the Ukraine will become a NATO puppet either under whatever steam it still has on its own or as part of Poland. A landlocked west Ukrainian rump state is going to be a much bigger drain on resources than one with some coastline. Furthermore I hold that Blinken, Nuland, Zelensky, Biden, and every single NATO officer and above, must face a Russian military tribunal for war crime charges. Without this, peace is impossible. So, fingers crossed Trump gets re-elected and does leave NATO, it’s disbandment is basically the only way the world can have peace.

RE: The tanker,

The bbc article tries its hardest to avoid saying what was in the tanker, but in one quote from a ukrainian plant, they say it was full of fuel. Which means that the ukraine tried to sink an oil tanker in the black sea, which would have caused an ecological disaster for mainly NATO countries; Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece

Ukraine haven't officially claimed responsibility for the attack and I can only assume that's because it was meant to be a hidden strike on the tanker and a way for the west to point at the ecological disaster and say "Russia causing climate change!"

Edit: BBC have update the image on their article with a little label that says "russian oil tanker", while still just saying tanker. I expect the label to removed in the next update. Still no discussion on what the repercussions would be if this vessel had have sunk.

Noone actually gives a shit about oil spills. Remember the Deepwater Horizon disaster in, what, 2010 or so? It was in the news almost daily for like 2 months, and Very Serious Scientific Experts kept saying it was the apocalypse, the entire coast would become a barren wasteland, the (((news))) were putting up pictures of poor animals covered in black goo, blah blah blah. Then it disappeared from the news, and a year later, you couldn't tell there was a spill at all. And that was an oil well blowing open, this is just a tanker, it's like pissing in the ocean compared to that disaster.

Thinking of which, Very Serious Scientific Experts also predicted that the planet would enter an ice age due to Iraqis setting their oil wells on fire in the early 90s during Desert Storm. That retarded fucking kike Sagan was probably the most prominent among them. Literally nothing happened, but that never stopped these people and the endless crowds of midwits who eat this shit up.

If that picture was actually sourced from the Ukrainian military, it's because they hired a bunch of models to pump out propaganda in the hopes that foreigners will come walk in front of the tanks while going through minefields.

They've shown that they'll beat, kill, harass, steal from, and refuse to pay foreign volunteers and mercenaries alike. I refuse to believe that the only part of the deal they're upholding is sending you a 10/10 milk truck with an addiction to sucking dick and giving back rubs.

That is comparing a spill to one in a much smaller ocean. Will all the oil dilute or break down as much in a smaller body of water? Would the local coastlines handle such contamination as well, as instead of being vacation and retirement properties the coast will be covered by people living on the sea, which, again, is much smaller and it's wildlife may be more isolated and sensitive to contamination

They did have that one girl for a feature story, calling her the Joan of Arc of Ukraine, but she ended up shooting a cop after robbing a gas station.
