I mean Japan is also notorious for having a shit ton of their media be set in high school (replacing prom with a school festival), the explanation I’ve heard for why that is is because Japs have an extreme fondness for their high school years because it’s the last time they had where they didn’t have to go to a soul-crushing job all the time.

The movie was OK. There are character arcs and none of the characters are Mary-Sues. For example, April is fat and black, but she is an awkward shy loser and not magically good at everything and stronger than all the other characters in the movie as has been the fashion lately. I hate that the race/gender swapped a bunch of characters, but my kids liked it and they actually put effort into the story and animation so I have to give it a pass. This isn't a situation like Elemental, Strange World or Seeing Red where actual kids don't want anything to do with it. This was a movie actual children like. It's dumb, funny and colorful with the turtles genuinely kicking the living shit out of people. That's all a Ninja Turtles movie needs to be. I will never watch it again, but my kids will probably watch it 100 more times.

Jackie Chan was really good as Splinter.

Why can't any of these artists get it through their fucking skulls?

It's a fucking cartoon. A piece of fictional work, which implies whatever happens goes out of the scope of reality. Case in point here, why the fuck would you try to make a character "grounded in the real world" when she's sharing the same space as 4 anthropomorphic turtles and a giant talking rat???

Cartoons and fictional works are made as an escape from reality, hence why a good chunk of them, especially back in the 90's/80's/2000's, had attractive women in them. It's an aesthetically pleasing choice which is part of what makes a character iconic. it makes you want to learn and know more about that character. One look at hobo-nigger, and I'm immediately turned off because I can tell she smells like pot and failure.

Not only that, a lot of things between the 80s through 2000s had more soul. The mid-2010s were when things got pozzed for the worst.

The movie felt like two separate movies to me. The first half was just a bunch of "mention popular thing" whereas the second half had at least some level of plot and heart.

The art direction on humans in the film is pretty abysmal across the board. In some ways I like it as it looks like a grunge comic, but it does give the film a very unpleasing set of characters to look at outside the turtles.

I found the designs for the villains looked good, but the designs for the Turtles was terrible and making April O'Neil black was retarded. Why not make the black character a new character? Can't be any worse than the original movies. I like the overall colour scheme being used, but I hate the animation. It's a literal eyesore for me.

If you make the new Turtle movies look good by comparison it's time to rethink your life choices, or just kill yourself.

I figured there was some "in perpetuity" contract between Pizza Hut and the TMNT franchise so your choice is no pizza sponsor or Pizza Hut when you make TMNT
