I figured it was a way to let him down gently when she rejected his advances. The old "it's not you, it's me" thing, but by claiming it's a sexual orientation, it also makes it very clear that she won't change her mind. It's pretty common in young women. If they've been taught to not hurt boys' feelings (and especially to be kind to the retarded boy, and especially if they're wary of what he might do if they piss him off) they will try to dance around it and make the rejection as nice as they can, sometimes by lying about being lesbian or asexual or having a boyfriend etc, but with a determined autist like Chris, that just muddies the water and confuses him more than a clear "no" would.

I don't know. I'm sure Megan wouldn't have had much to do with him if Chris wasn't buying her shit off ebay like the Nazi photos, sailor moon and my little pony stuff. Her hanging out in a game and hobby store in her 20s does strike me as a little odd, but Charlottesville / Ruckersville don't strike me as places with a lot of stuff for young people to do other than drinking and shitty drugs.
