Surprised no one’s mentioned (for the people investigating the origins & etymology of “goon,”) that it became popularized about 20 years ago on Something Awful. I’d start there if I was researching that shit. Pretty common knowledge that a bizarre goon subculture came from that site. It also gave us the term, “troon,” which is a portmanteau of tranny plus goon. The troons from SA used the term as a point of pride. Troon became a derogatory term on Kiwi Farms specifically.
