As I said earlier in this thread, death seems more merciful than having to be a lifer or in prison for a huge chunk of your life. It forces you to think about and reflect upon and suffer for what you've done. That's assuming he doesn't immediately get whacked by a chain gang for being a pedophile. That said, some criminals are insane and can't be rehabilitated and are a constant threat to everyone around them. Maybe in those cases, death is the pragmatic option. Something tells me that it would be near impossible to rehabilitate our Goon-boy.The biggest problem with the Death Penalty is that it usually takes over a decade for them to actually be killed. Until then, they're just a strain on taxpayers and families of victims are stuck with no catharsis as they watch them try to get off death row for good behavior.
You are right in saying torturing scum like these does have a toll on people. There have been a few studies on people who have tortured others and they also end up with PTSD and mental problems because of it.
Personally I don't find there to be any catharsis when it comes to crimes against children like that though. Dead or imprisoned or not there's always more of them like cockroaches.
