This whole debacle with LTT really shows the issue of mixing educational content with entertaining content. Even if they make a piece of content that is purely entertainment because they have made educational videos in the past people are going to take it the same way (which is the whole point of their business from a brand perspective - brands pay for them to do a positive "first look" of their product but the video comes off like a glowing review because they did fair reviews before).

These hardware reviews are so stupid and pretentious, it's like wine tasting for autistic shutins. Unless you're benchmarking software you yourself have written there's not much to gather from these numbers apart from "this GPU runs such and such game at an average xyz FPS, compared to the last generation on the same rig that ran 40 FPS slower" or whatever, which any Amazon review can tell you. All this crap about cores, cache storage, etc. is all pointless. Either it runs what you want it to run at the performance you expect for the price or it doesn't.

That prototype had to be individually fabricated at one of those specialty machine shops to very exact specs.

The fact that LMG appears to not understand it was both expensive and not OK to just sell it off is baffling.

I don't know if I can blame LTT for not understanding this as much as I blame Billet Labs for putting something so delicate in the hands of a spastic jackass with no plan to make sure he didn't treat them and their prototype as flippantly as he did. If it's your business it's your job to protect it.

Minor powerlevel here. As a solo content creator, I can easily see how even Let's Player's end up turning into dozen men operations. To release a single 8 minute video can take me a 10+ hours easily - planning, scripting, recording, assembling, editing, reviewing, publishing. I'm also only good at the writing part and I imagine most other creators are in a similar boat, so editing takes me double the time someone proficient would take. The raps I did for kiwitober '21 easily took me 4-6 hours a piece and those were only a minute or two long. This is all to say, I can see the appeal of having a team with everything compartmentalized for an efficient pipeline.

Even with that said, LTTs 120 employees still makes absolutely no sense to me. Linus talks about himself like he's a minnow in the business world and, while he certainly is not massive, he's 5-6x the size of most startups I have been a part of; 120 is firmly mid-sized and I'm tired of him using his small size as an excuse.

It's crazy with this many eyes on his content there are still so, SO many errors - his time and money should be investing in the quality of his content not quantity of content - the argument is that the algorithm demands quantity, but he doesn't make his money off of youtube he makes it from simps buying every piece of garbage from his store and sponsorships, so the quantity should matter far less to someone of his size.

As one of the threads resident Linus semi-defenders, I find his response pathetic and the treatment of Billet inexcusable. His skillset is in being the Guy Fieri of tech and he needs to lean into that more instead of trying to wear the hats of a manager/operator, which he clearly fails at. Stepping down from CEO while maintaining full share control shows to me his obsessive need for micromanaging will lead to the death of LTT unless he changes ship soon, and it already might be too late.

LTT videos are entertaining for those with brain rot, I never liked them.

Linus has been successful mainly because he was among the first ones doing pc tech videos and he's somewhat good at talking on camera, and that does deserve some credit. But the fact remains that if he started later on, with serious competition around, he would've failed.
Hell, he's failing even with the early start advantage, it just took longer.

Here's how I would reply to Gamers Nexus.

We here at LTT and I, Linus Sebastian would like to offer an honest apology to both the community and Billet Labs especially. We have failed to meet our own standards and those of responsible media in general. What happened with Billet Labs was completely unacceptable, we can only offer compensation at this point and a promise to review our internal practises regarding the handling of non LTT property and our commutation policies to ensure this never happens again.

It's easy to issue an apology and move on so we are going to make a public commitment to ensuring our factual accuracy going forward and to reassess our relationship with entities in the tech space. What form that takes has yet to be decided but haven't ruled anything out, including lowering the number of videos we release weekly to otherwise reducing the work load on our staff and cutting personal/business ties to many tech companies.

I would like to thank Gamers Nexus for their report, this is a perfect example of why it's healthily for there to be more than just one voice in this space. Accountability can only be found when there are people ready and willing to say uncomfortable truths without the fear of backlash, so I ask that any LTT fan to please treat the Gamer Nexus team with respect as their report was the correct thing to do.

This has been a eye opener for me specifically. These concerns have been raised to me personally by members of my team in the past and I brushed them off because I didn't believe them to be valid. I was wrong and I have to admit that my frankly cavalier attitude is reasonable for these problems.

Linus once told a story about one of his cats being baked alive when their cleaning lady ran the clothes dryer without realizing the cat was inside.
I felt bad for 2 reasons, the first one being a cat suffering trough a dryer cycle, which is a very slow and painful death and the second reason being Linus' kid, apparently that particular cat was the little hapa's favorite cat.
This happened when they were out on vacation and if I remember right the kid said something like " I can't wait to go back home to see 'cat's name' " only to find it agonizing and the cleaning lady freaking out when they got back.

Over the years since he told that story in the wanshow Linus did a lot of things that made me dislike him, little things here and there; Eventually I stopped watching his videos, unsubscribed from his channel but still...
