Impossible to say how much of it was true and how much was cope/excuse but when he left they said that he was never intended to be a permanent employee. He had been working with a bicycling channel for a bit and that had gotten to the point where he could take it on full-time and he described it as his dream job. While he was on the bigger side if you can find a video where you see his legs he definitely seems to be into biking based on that.

When he left there was talk of him coming back occasionally if he fit a video and Linus said something along the lines of "It's an amicable goodbye but it's still goodbye," which, with all the talk of how controlling and micro-manage-y he seems to be, comes across to me as thinly veiled bitterness at one of his more popular hosts quitting.

Glad I'm not alone in finding this odd too. He mentions looking out for "nsfw jokes" too ? How do these even end up that far down the line when most of the content is filmed from a script which had been pre-validated.
With that wording, it seems to me like he's doing some soy content policing more than anything else.

Imagine this person had all this energy to write these 65 tweets; With the total character count of an average undergraduate college essay, and they wrote it in the worst possible interface.

Posting on pornhub isn't necessairly always a funneling thing. In fact before people found out about people circumventing copyright it was a way to put full movies online or receive money without having to worry about music in your video.
