At some point, if there's no indication you're joking, you can't really blame people for taking you seriously and acting accordingly especially if there's evidence to indicate you're serious. Admitting to being attracted to children isn't a crime in the US. The statute of limitations on her cousin have run out, and unless the feds can actually view the CP she shared then there's not much evidence of a crime.

Actually the statute of limitations probably hasn't run out for "Alice" if Nyberg actually did anything illegal with her. "Alice" is currently 18.

The SoL has run out on any CP she owned or distributed from the years the IRC logs cover, though. That's part of why I didn't bother turning the logs over to the cops right away when I found them - there's nothing they could really do with them.

Realistically, if Nyberg goes to prison for anything, it'll be for tax shenanigans. But as other people with more law and tax expertise have said in this thread, that's unlikely to happen as long as Nyberg makes regular payments (even tiny ones) towards the tax debts. She'll just have massive liens hanging over her head for the rest of her life, most likely.

I suspect that Nick is super saline over this since it hits too close to home. Not because it was his butt buddies who suffered the consequences, but how Mombot's setup was a honeypot similar to the methods the FBI uses to catch people looking to hook up with minors. That must really bake Nyberg's biscuits.

The minimum age of consent there is 13 so they must be alright to Nyberg.

Even though this is a really old post, I want to clarify that regions can and have set the consent higher. That's just the equivalent of a federal baseline. In comparison, the United States has no federally set age of consent (AFAIK) and age of consent is set entirely by the individual states.

Anyways, as long as he doesn't diddle more kids, a crushing tax burden is a great punishment for someone like him.
