With modern rules and regulations I'm sure this wouldn't be allowed, but in my personal opinion she needs to be put into a 24/7 monitored room or somehow constantly observed without her knowledge, so she can just continue to do this. I believe she's been too far gone for a long while now, and I feel like psychiatrists and trauma doctors alike would benefit from studying the ways she disassembles herself like cheap IKEA furniture.

I mean, what's the point though? To have a vegetable no one gives a shit about be part of the interior in a facility somewhere? Having a breathing husk of a person take up space with zero quality of life I would assume is for the family's "benefit", but the only one who seemed to look after Kelly at some point was Gina but I guess she needed to leave to keep her own sanity (totally understandable imo). From my point of view, it seems like the only reasonable options for Kelly are either just letting her pick herself apart with minimal intervention, or assisted suicide (which I assume she wouldn't agree to or she would have already done it).

Kelly has always been an unsophisticated Munchie. She performs some random injury to herself and lets the doctors try and make a diagnosis. Some other Munchies study medical texts and find diseases they can fake and proceed from there.

In this case, it looks like she has infected her stump(s), pulled all of her teeth out, and ripped her hair out, and is hoping that this looks like some disease with which she will be diagnosed.

Munchausen Syndrome isn't listed in the DSM-5-TR, it is grouped under factitious disorder. So if you want to research this condition, search for "factitious disorder".

Despite the differences in execution between Melissa and Kelly, there is some overlap in motives. Kelly has (indirectly) told us that her self-injury is motivated by a desire to "feel cared for", and to outsmart the medical doctors.

I'm confused by many of the comments in this thread.

Kelly has implicitly admitted that she deliberately infects her wounds with some substance that is not feces. She has shown us the large pair of scissors that she uses to gouge holes in her legs and she posted a video of herself using the scissors to dig into her rotting flesh. She showed us her exposed tibial nerve which she severed with her favorite pair of scissors. The responses to the exposed tibial nerve were--frankly speaking--retarded. It was variously described as a parasitic worm, a tendon, and an artery and it bore no resemblance to any of these.



Kelly isn't presenting with some novel mental disorder; she has factitious disorder. The only aspect of Kelly's psychopathology which is uncommon is its unremitting nature and her willingness to die.

I think she will be dead soon.

Kelly does represesnt as Munchausen's but I do wonder if she has some congenital insensitivity to pain going on as well. You don't just burrow into your leg and pull a nerve out unless your body does not process pain the same as others.

Neither Munchies nor BPDs have been found to have an insensitivity to pain or unusual sensation of pain. They both either endure the pain or enjoy the pain.

Kelly's parents and sister are partly responsible for Kelly's parlous state.

Followers of this thread may recall when Kelly's sister made an account and posted to this thread. A KFer, a medical doctor--@cuddle striker IIRC--tried to query Kelly's sister on the matter of Kelly's mental health history. Kelly's sister was uncooperative and made some weak claim that revealing anything would violate Kelly's privacy and autonomy; her words were along the lines of "Kelly's story is for her to tell." The physician KFer justifiably concluded that the entire Ronahan family is dysfunctional.

The obvious problem with Kelly's sister's folk ethics is that a person in the grip of severe mental illness is not acting autonomously, and the narrative that Kelly has been disseminating via her social media is entirely false. Also, publishing images and videos of her diseased body parts to the web vitiates any third-party concern with the confidentiality of Kelly's present medical condition and history.

Kelly's family was well-placed to stymie her self-destruction and prevent wasting valuable medical resources. Even if her parents have no interest in her or concern for her fate--which would be understandable--they nevertheless have a moral imperative, a civic duty, to prevent their deranged daughter's egregiously wasteful abuse of the Canadian medical system. This moral duty alone defeats any concern for Kelly's (severely impaired) autonomy or (nominal) privacy.

Kelly's parents and sister could have--and should have--sent an email and a printed letter to the admissions department and emergency department of every hospital within a 10-mile radius of Kelly's residence. The letter would explain that Kelly has factitious disorder and that her injuries are all entirely self-inflicted. The letter need not refer to factitious disorder or Munchausen Syndrome. It can merely state that Kelly fakes illness to receive medical care. The family knows this because she most likely started Munching while living with her parents, and her sister's reticence implies the same.

Even easier, since Kelly's sister knew which hospital(s) Kelly was admitted to, she could have just called the hospital(s) and let them know about her sister's mental illness.

This simple action would have slowed Kelly's illness performance to a snail's pace and saved the Canadian taxpayer millions of dollars. Kelly's auto exsanguination and associated diagnostic testing and subsequent waste of donor blood, as well as the destruction of her perfect skin grafts, I found especially offensive (and I am not Canadian). Consider the associated costs and wastage these performances produced and how self-centered and narcissistic one would have to be to cause such waste of precious medical resources.

Kelly should have been shunted into psychiatric care as early as possible. Even if she refused psychiatric treatment, letting all of the local clinics and hospitals know about her mental illness would have made it very hard for her to abuse the medical system. If the admitting hospital(s) knew she was a Munchie, they could have treated her appropriately.

Sister Gina is still in place, as of her last update. She's posted some photos of the fires and said she has to wear a N95 mask to go outside. Things looked pretty dire on her end, and she hasn't posted in ~24 hours, so it's possible she's had to pull up stakes.

Because a previous Kelly update came from Gina's Instagram, I've continued to keep an eye on it. She hasn't mentioned her sister at all or referenced her in any way in that time. You'd never know she had a sister, in fact. What she presents on her Instagram account seems very typical: travel, cats, her love of the fancy coffee maker she got for Christmas. It certainly could be that she's studiously curating her content, but it still makes a bizarre contrast to Kelly.

This seems a good a time as any to update about a lack of an update from Gina.

She is young and for this reason, resilient, and she has been receiving (wasting) excellent medical care.

But infecting her stumps is flying too close to the sun. The infection may spread to her abdominal organs. Her medical team is most likely once again pumping her full of antibiotics. If she recovers from the infection, we know she will re-infect her stumps. This tiresome (and wasteful) routine will continue until she dies. Kelly has mastered the process of infecting her legs/stumps through repetition, so she will return to the reliable method. We don't know what substance she is using to infect her stumps, so we don't know what bacteria she is infected with. Depending on the bacteria, she is at risk of developing sepsis. This has a good chance of killing her should it occur.

In one of the new videos, Kelly inhaled a drug that she said reduces fever. She had what appeared to be a damp towel on her forehead, which is usually applied when there is a fever. There is a possibility that the fever is a symptom of sepsis.

I suspect that removing her teeth may be a prelude to causing an oral infection. Some Munchies resort to causing infection in their non-dominant arm after destroying their legs. But Kelly doesn't appear to want to go down that route, probably because she needs her arms to perform the method she is using to infect her stumps, and she doesn't want to lose this trusty method of making herself sick. Her mouth is a new Munchie frontier, and it is pregnant with self-destructive possibilities.

Now that she has removed her teeth, she will be on a soft food and liquid diet, which will not change if she induces an oral infection. Kelly has lowered the "cost" of causing an oral infection in that it would not further interfere with her nutrition. The obvious path for Kelly would be to infect her gums like she infects her stumps; whatever infectious substance she uses, she knows it works reliably. If she travels down this road, she will increase her odds of dying. An oral infection can lead to sepsis, meningitis, brain abscess, and endocarditis.

I'm not the most educated on the Canadian health care system; does it cover dental? most places I know with free healthcare don't cover dental costs unless its an emergency, like you got your tooth knocked out in an accident or some shit.

My first thought was they probably give her dentures, but seeing just how gaunt her face has become, that's not happened. I've known several people with dentures over the years but they always had some teeth remaining that the denture anchored onto. If they hadn't, they had some sort of posts screwed in to keep things in place.

If that’s available in Canada, that’s what should have been done for Kelly. My understanding is though, is in US it is very hard to take somebody’s liberty, and Canada has this MAID program so they clearly believe people should die if they want. Kelly should get no more blood, which is donated, no more grafts, also donated, and maybe should be given comfort care only with her next infection. Doctors should tell her that-no more treatment, only comfort measures, and see if that reality stops her. It will not, so next time put her on a nice morphine drip and let her pass.

IDK about Canada but in the states the core Medicare program doesn’t cover shit. Some states have slightly less shitty programs, but it’s still a couple grand annually, absolute max. That sounds like a lot until you realize that’s 1-2 crowns/root canals.

You'd have to have a dental problem preventing you from continuing Life for them to do something about it. Dental is completely out of pocket in Canada provided you don't have private insurance. Same with Eyes or mental resources.

I've finally decided to check back in here so I may reply to some old posts. Feel free to ignore all this if that bothers you in any way.

I wonder what exactly is wrong with the brain of someone who is mutilating their own body and if there is a cure.

What makes her brain decide that the body needs to be ripped apart? That flesh, teeth & entire body parts are something to get rid off?
What horrifying mental illnesses is she suffering from? Calling her an attention whoring munchie is not an explanation. It describes her behaviour but that's it.

Not a doctor, or a psych but I do know someone who suffers from extreme OCD that manifested in pulling out every hair on her body 1 by 1. Unlike Kelly this wasn't for attention and she was devastated by it. She hated the feeling, the action itself and the results but could not stop herself. The moment her mind wandered her hands would be up by her scalp.
Kelly does everything for attention, but I do wonder if that need is also a compulsion, or if the self harm aspects have become so. Most of the people I know who have done similar things (not to that extreme) were drug users who would pick at themselves or become obsessed with a blemish and use anything sharp that was available to remove it.
It's incredibly hard to understand, and if I hadn't heard it from people I really trust I'd probably never believe someone saying they just CAN'T stop causing themselves to bleed or causing themselves damage.

We also have no idea what kinds of drug cocktails Kelly has managed to get from doctors in the past, or what she may be on now. We have no idea if they numb her body, deteriorate her mind or completely disconnect her from reality. My best guess after following this story for years is that her issues are purely psychiatric, spurred on by attention seeking, and have only been made worse by the attention she's received and possibly years of unnecessary medication.
But all that is just my best guess.

Since when was this a "situation" for us to "handle"? We have as much influence over these situations as someone watching a house fire on TV. We can't stop anyone from doing anything, nor is it our responsibility. I've talked to Kelly in this thread, anyone can see the whole exchange, what would this guy have liked me, or anyone else, to do? Every authority figure in her life already knew the situation long before this thread picked up, lolcow already had two full threads of documentation proving her family and her doctors were on to her game for years.
I have yet to see a single video on Kelly that doesn't show lazy research and pussyfooting around the facts. No one mentions her time in mental wards, no one talks about the clear timeline we have of those bruises turning into wounds turning into "bechts" and I haven't seen a single one that brings up the Boyfriend/Pimp and his Cannibal Dog Fucking Cult.

So any youtuber who comes back here to re-read the thread when Kelly dies to make a follow up video, how did YOU handle it? Because it seems to me you all exploited her insanity, introducing her to a much wider audience and they all attacked her social media, cutting off our main info sources. Kelly has been held before. The major problem though, aside from there just being no space in these places, is that she stays for about a month, takes all her meds like a good girl and then leaves because she's not a danger to society at large.

I think the difficult thing about Kelly is her actually inflicting real injuries instead of just lying and faking symptoms. Her parents definitely should have been loud and clear about the extreme lengths Kelly will go to to inflict injury to herself and esp her love of infecting and picking her wounds.

I wonder how long it took her family to realize what she was doing? I get the idea they mom and sis might have enjoyed the drama at the start. Family attention and drama is usually the initial goal of a munchie. Many discover their munchie within thanks to a real injury or issue that makes them realize how much they enjoy the concern and attention.
