Derek is difficult to read depending on how you see him.
At times he legit feels like a well intended but with Chris Chan level naivette over how the real world works (the fact he lives in a high income LA neighborhood doesnt inspire much confidence in his attachment to real life). He really cant understand why people would find him or Cool Cat to be weird when all he wants is educate children. And he really cant tell when he is breaking his own morals because, again, he is a dettached LA simpleton.
At others he feels oddly creepy and very spiteful that people are making fun of him. And then have the guts to get even more angry/confused over why people are angry with him abusing copyright laws (like many lolcows before him). Him using the Cool Cat Twitter to flirt with women feels oddly innapropriate and feels very desingenious over his intentions of "educating" kids. Really makes it seem like he doesnt care for children's education but for other..."reasons" (urgh).
He really is an anomaly. I dont feel bad making fun of him and his character because, even at the good faith argument, he still is a dettached LA simpleton who refuses to learn and adapt to the changing world around him, pretty much making enemies out of his critics. If he really wanted to make Cool Cat something akin to Barnie or something, he really needed to adapt his cinematography and learn what made Barnie work.
Either way, point at him and laugh.
Ngl, I would pay to see Cool Cat getting fucking handled by a wrestler. Especially if the fag in the costume suddenly panics and said that they didnt agree on actual fucking pain and tries to escape the ring only to be pushed back and a cell traps them both inside.

Cool Cat in a Santo movie remake? I'd totally watch that.
