In seriousness, other people have said that the home Chris is thought to be in has a literal no sex crime conviction policy.

Perhaps this is all a result of that, they don't want to let Chris wander the streets homeless. Perhaps also so that there is a precedent or something in place for that law which originated from Chris's other lawyer, to ensure that when a retard does something so retarded it is criminal, the state can quietly place them in a situation where they can be monitored and wrangled, away from family unable to cope with them?

It could be I am being too hopeful, but this would be a better long term solution for similar tardery, which may be feared to be getting worse with the growing apathy and coddling of adult children in the west right now.

You raise an interesting point...perhaps Heilburg made a deal where his case can be dismissed without further charges as long as he stays medicated, supervised, and in a tardhome as few of them would take somebody guilty of a sex crime if he were convicted of one. In return, Chris would probably have to abide by whatever rules and restrictions the group home places on its residents.

I am not sure if courts can legally forbid somebody to leave the home in lieu of prison time without a commitment order, but even if there was nothing legally stopping Chris from leaving the home, where would he go? His only alternative would be homelessness, and Chris could not even bring himself to sleep in his van for one night. Plus, now that his case has been "dismissed" I am sure that this would rile up some a-loggers around the area who are eager to take matters into their own hands to punish Chris for getting off "scott-free" if he were wandering around town unescorted.
