Like what other replies said, it's a fetish. I think it's also an IMAX tier projection on the troon's part. I would wager that he was thrilled when teasing girls as a boy, and seeing women afraid of his presence at night. I remembered reading about it back in 2016, but I've seen recent discussion as of late 2022/early 2023. This image of Danny going to a waterpark but wearing a t-shirt and accidentally "goes ghost" in the women's changeroom is usually the No. 1 proof... it seems more like he's insecure about being scrawny or doesn't want to show an uneven tan? I don't know why a 14 y/o old who isn't athletic or works out regularly would have a ripped body like the jocks at his school. And Butch didn't do the comic thing where everyone is ripped AF. Then again, a similar thing happened with others calling Jenny/XJ9 a trans icon. The ones who worked on the cartoon actually approved of this view. The slightly less obvious problem was that her ExoSuit (human disguise) was called a transition allegory.
The problem was that both episodes that involved th ExoSuit showed tha th ExoSuit was a bad thing: the first ExoSuit was a Mimikyu-esque mess that scared others and would have suffocated Jenny/XJ9 if she was not a robot, whereas the second ExoSuit, while being a perfect disguise, had a mind of its own that pushed Jenny/XJ9 into being a narcissistic human before just possessing Jenny/XJ9. The second ExoSuit would not let Jenny/XJ9 fight a monster because she would break a nail.
