I get the impression that Jimbo may have been misled by doctors. Like they told him that he's fucked and will be a goner in 3 months and then 3 months on they turn around and say well ackshually it's not that bad and we were just trying to prepare you for the worst case scenario. So now he's in this limbo zone of where he's not dying but also not sure if he's gonna make it for certain so he's downplaying his chances.

I think it's more likely they just have no fucking clue what's actually going on. At this rate, I expect less of a death by heart attack or stroke, and more for his entire body to spontaneously collapse like pulled pork.

That being said, Jim himself has always been a massive doomer and has probably had the mindset that's he's completely fucked for couple years now. That's an attitude to take if you're 100% terminal.
