Look, I get it. There are shitty people in almost every fandom. The types of guys who other fans of the show don't want the world to see. I've encountered a few of them in my fandoms and I am sympathetic to the more sane fans. But if they are doing such horrible things, then you don't sweep that under the rug. You confront it and let them know they aren't welcome (or let mods know so they can step in). And if the circles you run in attract mostly toxic members, find a new place to hang.

Dobson's solution is to do nothing. He puts more effort into remaining willfully ignorant than addressing the issues, allowing something he professes to love to be tarnished. A show that is supposed to be teaching kids lessons has been associated with trying to make people commit suicide. That's fucked up. And it's going to continue to be fucked up until assholes like Dobson stop circle-jerking how progressive they are and do something about it. A fandom has only itself to blame if outsiders form a negative opinion about it. Just look at the bronies.

Communities should police themselves, is all I'm saying. If the fans are going to act like jackasses, then why should anyone else give the show a chance?
