I actually need to do a write-up on FF13 at some point. I can actually see what Square-enix was trying to do when this entire overglorified mistake happened. It had a couple of interesting ideas with equally interesting origin points, and if you understand where those were, FFXIII goes from being simply shit to a fascinating case-study in shitting the bed so hard you rupture the floorboards (and also both hilarious, and more than a little sad). Individually, almost any aspect of FFXIII in a vacuum has good ideas and is salvagable; put together and it's the incoherent mess that the internet has mocked rightly for years.

XII was what killed my interest in the series. The story was blah (I forgot about the characters and plot 5 minutes after I completed it), the battle system was messed up (why have your characters move around when you're going to get hit by a wolf bite from the other side of the battle field anyway?), the equip system sucked (like I need to learn how to wear a hat?), and the side quests were super-high risk for little to no reward.

At least i'll always have IV, VI, and IX.

Creators will always exist. There will always be painters, writers, musicians, sculptors, architects, and more. And yes, there will always be game designers, because there will always be programmers, and that's what game making is. It starts with a vision that we put in a compiler using some sort of programming language.

The phenomenon of talentless hacks in an artistic field has existed since art ever existed. These days, we can tell when a book was published by a 'special interest' press or a movie is just a vanity project by a big name. And we can tell when a dumb fuck begs on Kickstarter or Patreon for the latest in walking simulator trash, with a less then 10% chance of actual delivery. Say what you want about Undertale, at least Toby Fox fuckin' delivered on his promise.

Doesn't indie mean Independent? Which means no big publisher financing them? It's not really a limitation on how much money goes into a game. Technically anyone who finances their game without a publisher is "indie". Star Citizen is "indie".
Don't Kickstarter and Patreon herald a new age for indie game devs? Now free from the shackles of big publishers they should be flourishing. I think Brianna may not understand what she's talking about...
