Only if it also extends to the insidious and widespread data harvesting tactics of corporate entities. Everywhere you go online you are being tracked, packaged and sold to the highest bidder. It’s not long until this data is tied to your physical body in the form of facial recognition just like China does it. I’m in a Five Eyes country and numerous companies just got busted using facial recognition in their stores. They all claim it’s used for theft prevention but I’d be shocked if they weren’t linking your face to your purchases to sell your data to other companies and to the government, which happened during Covid. This is where the right to be forgotten is important because I want to be anonymous when I leave my house.

As we should, kids are dumb and do dumb shit. But once you reach the age of majority, and you persist in acting like a complete retard online (and IRL), you're going to get negative attention. Eighteen year olds aren't the most mature creatures in the world either, but we as a society have made a presumption that by 18, you are old enough to know if what you are doing is right or wrong.

There are plenty of states that will try kids as young as 13 as adults, especially if they've committed a particularly heinous crime. We hold ourselves to a higher standard, and will only mock the stupidity of people who are legal adults.

I don't know when exactly the advice given to young people changed from "Don't put anything personal about yourself online, because you don't know who will access that information or what they will do with it" to "Put everything about yourself online at all times, and if you don't you're some sort of antisocial weirdo", but I think we should start teaching young people the former precept rather than endorsing the latter.
