No, I think this is different. They've been primarily making games since the 1980s. Over the last decade they've been working a lot harder to pimp out their IP, action figures, kids clothes, phone games, theme parks attractions, movies, bookbags, etc. I think it's been a shift that's gradually happening for a while. There's always been some stuff, (I had a Mario wallet when I was a kid, for example), but every store has wall to wall Mario and Pokémon shit in the kids sections now to the point where it would be genuinely shocking to go to Wal-Mart and not find at least a dozen different Nintendo t-shirts.

Nintendo Reportedly Showed 'Switch 2' Demos To Developers At Gamescom​

A further source for VGC claimed that Nintendo demoed Epic's The Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 demo on the 'Switch 2' — the project formally used to showcase the power of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X back in 2021. According to the VGC report, the console demo's visuals were comparable to the current-gen offerings from both Sony and Microsoft, running with Nvidia's DLSS upscaling technology with advanced ray tracing enabled. Apart from that, we still know very little about what form the console will take. VGC sources suggested that the demoed equipment could be used in a handheld mode much like the current Switch, though that seems like a no-brainer at this point.

Wow, could my "as powerful as a Series S" prediction have been a lowball? I'm sure they recently optimized that UE5 demo, and saying it runs as well as it did on PS5/Series X doesn't mean it's as powerful as those systems, especially considering it'll almost definitely still be a hybrid. But I need to look into DLSS more, it sounds like a game-changer.

So in late 2024, the power dynamic will be Switch 2 (somewhere between a Series S and Series X in power, likely closer to the former but with DLSS) vs. PS5 Pro vs. Xbox Series EX (abbreviated as SEXbox).

If the Steam Deck can sit between the PS4 and PS5 in terms of power, so does the 'Switch 2' . Probably with a more energy-efficient chip too.
In any case, I do hope that the backwards compatibility will allow Switch games to take advantage of the better specs right out of the box, for performance improvements, and not through some canveat running in a mode which downclocks the specs to the original Switch's. That would kind of suck.

It runs on Deck without DLSS, and the UE5 TSR it falls back on is actually pretty frame heavy. Also this video is under Windows, which performs worse on Deck than running in Linux. UE5 is very VRAM heavy, and the Deck uses shared memory between GPU and RAM, consoles do something similar but they also use direct storage on their SSDs as well. I assume the demo was a 30fps target, but what really worries me is that they are going to end up forcing DLSS for everything. The abundance of TAA on Switch games was bad enough for me already, but if they start forcing DLSS then its going to be a myopia simulator to me.

there’s a difference between an old French dude growing his hair out and a much younger man doing the same while simultaneously changing his style of dress and attempting to act more feminine

Immediately assuming that Charles will troon out based off a hairstyle is both paranoid and stupid, imo, considering the factors that typically go into trooning out (porn addiction, surrounding yourself with people who have a porn addiction, peer pressure, extreme attention-seeking behaviors, extreme mental illness, etc).

Charles is not only well outside the main demographic for (trans) peer pressure, but also a professional voice actor (+ regular actor) with a well-established career and (seemingly healthy?) marriage who seems perfectly sane outside of being a theatre kid. Definitely not attention-seeking considering how private he keeps his personal life (and the fact that he’s spent the last 30 years primarily voice acting in vidya- not even cartoons or something else more well-respected).

I do want to clarify that Charles is not married and has no children.
