It's one thing for people to be able to put a youthful indiscretion behind themselves and have an incident-free adult life, and - on a similar note - move past an isolated incident that caused no real harm.

Like anything in the current year, though, activists have twisted and wordsmithed this concept to mean that they should be able to memory hole anything that portrays them or the groups they champion in a bad light. Whether it's media refusing to acknowledge minorities committing various crimes; Brianna Wu who once boasted about using Twitter backchannels to silence detractors; or LFJ using "girl talk" to bully ISP execs into submission, these folks will do anything and stop at nothing to scrub the internet of any sort of unflattering details from being public.

This is the motivation behind LFJ's years-long crusade against the site. LFJ may want people reading the WP article to believe the victim narrative and that shutting down the 'Farms isn't a life goal any more, but Maury Povich would determine that statement to be a lie. LFJ's anger at the 'Farms ever since TLL drew the site's attention is such that LFJ decided shutting down the site is enough of a high priority to devote every free moment to it.

I believe he was actually fired or let go before he started his obsessive-compulsive campaign, but for some reason still had the email address. It's certainly the sort of thing that probably precludes him ever having a position as prestigious again, though.

My understanding is that he had the mixed fervor of the Khmer Rouge, the Young Turks and the chinese Red Guards in what affects keeping woke orthodoxy to the point that even the uber-woke big wigs at Google came to the conclusion that the constant purge-hungry enquiries, investigations and prosecutions was messing too much with the company's actual performance and canned him. Interestingly enough, historically, this tends to be the fate of such a character.
