Plagued Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

Imagine the fumes the Maui fires let out from melting that shit down. Actual cancer.
if they wanna tax anyone for having a lifestyle that directly harms the environment, funkofags should go first
not so much that i think it'll do anything to offset the damage, its just that we all know these people got the money to pay it

its mental to me, really, that climate change politicians and opportunistic grifters fault working men who need to use their car or families with reasonable electricity use first and foremost for environmental damage, and never corporations that produce crap like this, or the citizens who own them in the tons
i guess its easier to wrangle a tax payer than it is to try and take the toy out of a child's hands

That's what it comes down to. They're children. Mentally stunted adults. It's not like you can even play with a Funko, like a Lego or Transformers, no, it just sits there looking stupid, waiting for its day to rot in a landfill or burn in a fire, much less a car that let's you get to work and kids to school.

and thats the future they wanna foster, a world where everyone is a child and everyone needs someone to parent them. that's where the state comes in.
this is why nobody trusts the words "climate change" anymore. most people will acknowledge that pollution is real and we're hurting the environment, and that something needs to be done on the matter, but that "something" will never be done as long as there's an incentive to keep us hooked on the things that are causing the damage.
once that set of words comes out, you know its a sign that the same people who are doing most of the damage are getting grubby hands. they wont dare take away the things that keep you consuming, they'll come for the things that make you less dependent.

And that what it comes down to, dependence. They don't want you to drive to the store, just use Amazon for everything peasant. You'll have to depend on the underpaid delivery driver for groceries. Anything faster and you'll need Grubhub, like a fucking bug, instead of, you know, just picking it up. You must Consoom EVERYTHING. Not even for a hobby, no, for every aspect of your life. It's spooky man.

It unironically is. If you try taxing corporations they will find either loopholes in the legislation OR dump the additonal expenses on their customers, which will make everything more expensive for normal people. The only solution I can see is - really - a complete ban on consoomer plastics since taxes and fees won't work.

i cant imagine it'd be a huge loss for, say, coke, if they had to do something as insignificant as switching from plastic bottles entirely to glass
but i CAN imagine how hard the consumer's ass is gonna get raped in terms of prices and taxes with how much moaning they're gonna be doing on the matter

that aside, unfortunately we live in a world where we cant switch entirely off of plastics
not only are there issues like medical supplies and sterile objects that cant reliably be made out of anything BUT plastic, but our quick paced, low trust society also necessitates disposable goods and doesn't value reusability
you'd have to completely flip culture on it's head to do this

Would would they moan though? Coke already sells retro glass bottled version of their drinks as a pseudo collectible that people happily buy. If they scrap plastic in the name of global warming/microplastics, I doubt there would be much outcry. They could replace the plastic bottles with more expensive but snazzy looking glass or aluminum options that I'm sure people will eat up and those that aren't drawn in by slick presentation or don't like the cost can stick to cans or fountains.

I think your getting a little too into the doom and gloom, friend. We are starting to slowly see that shift from away from disposable plastics as (at least where I live) people regularly bring their own bags to stores, bringing their own cutlery or cups to certain restaurants or cafés, and businesses try to keep plastic use to a minimum. The US still has a way to go, but maybe the microplastic concern will get people to be a little more wary of plastic products. If the US was able to make the shift from using Styrofoam everywhere (especially as food/drink containers) then I think we can make the shift from plastic too.

Glass bottles already cost more, Coke will definitely go "fiiiine if you guys insist, we'll introduce your 'environmentally friendly' bottles, but glass is soooooooooooooo expensive, it'll cost ya. Hey Jim, how much is that glass costing us more per bottle?" "Once cent, sir." "Shit, 5 bucks more it is!"

Can't say it ever has...

Yes, let me just get my cheap plastic figures with soul-draining eyes and display them in a way where I cannot see them. That dude was storing them 4 funko boxes deep against the wall! What the hell even is the point of buying this junk if you aren't going to visually see them at the very least? Consoomers really are retarded.

A friend of mine is convinced that his will increase in value over the long term so he's hodling in the hopes that he'll see a return on investment.
Your friend does not understand basic supply and demand. There is an oversupply of these things, and who is going to buy them in the future? I bet you the average Funko fan is also motivated by, "they will gain value in the future guys don't worry". The only people who are making money here are those who own the Funko branding and companies that license their IPs to be made into shitty collectables.

Pretty sure this was the mindset behind the Beanie Babies craze of the late 90's and when the bottom fell out of that it crashed HARD. To this day I still see beanies pop up in thrift stores for literally a dollar or two apiece, some of them are even in those protective plastic cubes that were sold at a premium to collectors back in the day. The local video game store where I live has a shelf dedicated just to Funkos and a lot of them are in the $3-5 range because they just don't sell.

Beanie Babies are pretty much worthless now. I was given a whole bunch of mint ones a few years back with "rare" tags, pellets, stitching errors, etc and tried ebaying them. Couldn't even get $5 each out of them.

A big thing about Beanie Babies is the rumor that in the year 2000 they were all going to be "retired" so you better buy every single one NOW NOW NOW. That rumor was huge, and drove tards to shell out for them even with zero proof and the company denying it.

People were blowing their kids' college funds on the things. Some cousin talked my grandma into buying an entire room full of them as an investment. I can't imagine how much she must have blown on them.

They all vanished at some point and I never found out where. Probably donated to a church rummage sale. I found an old pocket-sized value guide for them and it was showing values from the hundreds up into the thousands. Now you can't give them away. I've still got the "rare" ones in a box somewhere.

That's what I mean, the same plays are being used on Funkos. They don't make all of them forever, so if you want to get the Walter White one or whatever you better buy it while it's being manufactured and shipped or else you're SOL. And much like beanies the Funkos that there are a surplus of just don't sell, hence the bargain rack at the video game store. They just take up space and are generally worthless unless you have the rare ones like the convention exclusives or whatever. Hell, Nintendo amiibos have held their value better than Funko Pops and at least those toys serve a practical purpose for certain video games.

The only Beanie Babies that have any remote amount of value are the ones from the McDonald's Happy Meals because those have crossover appeal to people who collect the McDonald's toys. The rest are all worthless tat now and it doesn't surprise me that you couldn't even get a fiver for some of the admittedly rarer/mistake beanies. The Funko company are experts at churning out worthless plastic shit and marketing it toward consoomers but mark my words Funkos will be the Beanie Babies of the 2020's. There will come a day when you'll start finding them by the boatload at Goodwill all priced at $1.99 and no one will want them.

I got the mental image of this guy bolting out of his home because of the fires and shoving his custom Funko pop of himself in his pocket because he couldn't live without it.

And they never scold the "plebs" about consooming less as much as they do about eating less meat or owning a car. That's probably why so many people who Support The Current Thing are also consoomers, they're made to feel bad about everything but consooming.

Not to mention that soft drinks just plain taste better coming from a glass bottle, and if you ask almost anyone who's had the "Mexican Coke" that's sold in the glass bottle and uses cane sugar instead of HFCS they will almost certainly tell you how much better it tastes and how they don't mind paying more for it or needing to go to a different store to pick it up.

Bu that's not already happening despite the fact the Coke in glass bottles is already becoming easier to find in the US since that is the global standard.

You should hold an intervention and then beat him with a stick.

People were blowing their kids' college funds on the things.
The things were so in demand that people would book special international trips to London just to get the things when they premiered since back then they would premier in London first and then get shipped globally later. Beanie Babies were insane. I had some as a kid that I got second hand immediately after the market crashed and I loved them, they were good stuffed animals and a young Sleazy very much liked reading in bed with them, but the speculator craze for those things was something altogether special and I don't think we'll ever see anything quite like it again on that sort of scale. Even the markets for something like Funkos aren't NEARLY as insane as Beanie Babies got.
And they never scold the "plebs" about consooming less as much as they do about eating less meat or owning a car. That's probably why so many people who Support The Current Thing are also consoomers, they're made to feel bad about everything but consooming.
I think it also comes down to this younger, modern, generation striving to apply labels to themselves.

I'm unsure if it has been discussed on here or not - I don't really want to look through 400 pages of funko to find out, but the YouTuber MaxMoeFoe is like the perfect embodiment of mentally stunted consoomer and he seems to be safe from this stigma due to his previous content with FF & Idubbbz

this one video in particular sums up pretty much everything I have to say about it. While being a bit old at this point, he has not ceased his consooming, spending tens of thousands on cardboard for his MaxMoeFoe Pokemon channel.

Currently he's on a streak of being flagged as "for kids" by YouTube which is pretty funny - if he stopped saying bad words it would literally be indistinguishable from the type of content aimed at preteens. The guy is harmless and all, I just think it's interesting that he has avoided being soyjakified while being one of the biggest forces in consoomer content.

With the lack of shelves and how haphazardly everything is stacked up it almost feels like a bit, like this is the set of his own version of bad unboxing. Has he shared any collection vids that are more recent?
