From what I can find, they weren't entirely sure if she was a woman or not. The intersex thing is still a rumor, though since she had to go through tests to actually see whether or not she was actually female, people seem to have taken it as confirmed.
It's never said (at least I can't find valid sources where it's said) that she is intersex, but she seems to have hormonell problems.
Either way, people should and really need to stop hammering in the "Is the world ready for a polygender, otherkin morphball" stuff (I know this is over the top, but it's to emphasize)
She's an athlete, which in this case, is the only thing that matters. If tests say she can start with females, then she's that: A female.
I keep hearing how everyone is transphobic or racist or whatnot, but then it's always the people who say that, who are the ones pushing the whole "She is black! She is queer! She is also Intersex! Look how specul!" when in fact, no one cares about any of that and just want to see how good she participates.
I may not be speaking for everyone here, of course. But I never will care about anyones race or gender, because it's not that what makes a person. If someone is an asshole, he/she won't get a pass for being black or trans. And if someone is good at something, the fact he/she is black or trans won't make them super special to me.
