But for what it’s worth I lived in Washington Heights in NYC (majority Hispanic neighborhood) and went to grad school in Harlem (majority Black neighborhood), and I wasn’t victimized by a Hispanic or black man, nor was the annoyance-level crime (ie panhandlers, buskers, pickpockets) more pronounced or pernicious than it was in majority white neighborhoods like the Village or SoHo or the FiDi.

Benjamin Franklin didn’t think Germans were white. The definition of whiteness has undergone an amazing amount of scope creep, there are a number of nations that used to be “nonwhite” which are now generally considered white. Like Russia, for example.

Most of the ambitious and intelligent people I meet in my Engineering PhD are Africans, Asians and some Eastern Europeans from outside the US working on things that most Americans fundamentally can't just due to a lack of proper education and knowledge. You can talk about how it was white dudes that brought us to the moon (and a good deal of black secretaries as well), but if you are unable to do it, it doesn't matter. You fundamentally aren't part of any sort of master race if you have to look to the past and relish in the joy of solving a problem from the past vicariously instead of solving the problems of the present to create a better future today.
